Belkin has today launched its Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit, and claims it to be the world's first set of Powerline Networking adapters capable of achieving speeds of up to 1,000Mbps.
The Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit, pictured below, is powered by Gigle Semiconductor's mediaxtream chip and promise speeds five times quicker than the theoretical 200Mbps offered by current Powerline adapters.
Belkin reckons the kit will provides enough bandwidth to make it "ideal for online PC gaming and ultrafast high-quality transmission of multiple video streams".
Sounds useful, but readers should be aware that mileage with Powerline adapters will vary depending on factors such as distance, interference and building materials. We'd be willing to bet that speeds of 1,000Mbps won't ever be reached, but we're very interested in seeing just how quick Belkin's kit can go.
The Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit, consisting of two plug-and-play Gigabit Powerline adapters, is available now in North America at a cost of $149.99. Belkin expects European availability in August.
