Google has made available the latest version of its Chrome browser, dubbed internally as Chrome 2, and the release arrives with the promise increased speed and stability.

Over 300 crash-causing bugs are said to have been resolved, and a new version of WebKit - along with an updated JavaScript engine - are said to have boosted all-round performance.

In addition to the general housekeeping, Google has also introduced a trio of regularly-requested features; an improved new tab page with the added ability to remove thumbnails, a full screen mode accessible via the F11 key, and form autofill.

Existing users should be automatically upgraded, and those wanting to see what Google Chrome has to offer can download the browser at Google.com/Chrome. Want to know more about the Chrome 2 release? Here's Google Chrome product manager Brian Rakowski talking through some of the browser's new features:

thats great i was having a lot of issues with it before

is it faster than firefox now???
It's always been faster than firefox. Just not stable or bug free (not that I'm implying Firefox is completely stable and bug free, that'd be rediculous).

Speaking of which, I wonder if they've fixed that annoying text input rendering bug.
Hmm bit sluggish compared to FF IMO. Hexus site renders quicker in FF.

Anything on plugins? I am surprised that GMail isn't a plugin yet.
Stringent

Is that from nothing, or pulling things from cache?

And i haven't tried Chrome yet, it just looks too basic, simple is good, but i love my firefox addons :)
If Chrome was smart they'd make it FF-plugin compatible (if that were possible) as most FF users would never leave their plugins behind.. I wouldnt!
