Sapphire has today announced the availability of its Radeon HD 4870 TOXIC graphics card. As you're all aware, Sapphire's TOXIC cards come pre-overclocked and this one is no exception.

The Sapphire HD 4870 TOXIC Edition, pictured below, provides a core clock speed of 780MHz - up from the standard 750MHz - and 512MB of blazing-fast GDDR5 memory clocked at an effective 4,000MHz.

AMD's reference cooling solution has been scrapped and replaced with the dual-slot Sapphire-exclusive Vapor-X. The cooler uses Vapour Chamber Technology (VCT) and features three heatpipes and a thermally-controlled fan. The end result, says Sapphire, is a "more efficient and quieter cooling than competing solutions for this generation of high performance graphics."

There's no word on pricing for the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 TOXIC just yet, but it's shipping as of today and we can expect them at retail very soon.

Wonder how long it will be till we get coolers for GPUs that take up three slots. Imagine a fan on the front and back of card pushing air out the back.

So you could have heatpipes take heat around the back and front and have seperate silent fans cooling and pushing air out side…

Nice idea…
Wait, GDDR5? So that means that effectively the memory is running at 4GHz? I think they've just solved the 128-bit bus problem of the 4670. Either that, or it's only a typo
4870's have gddr5. you put gddr5 on a 4670 and its no longer cheap

4870, right.. Gotta read more thoroughly next time :stupid:
Hmm, they made some effort making the card look sexy inside your case..Why dont they just cover the whole card to improve aesthetics like the nvidia 260's and 280's for the sake of the price of like, erm, some plastic? :angst:
