Though DDR3 should become the norm following the launch of Intel's Core i7 later this year, there's still plenty of life left in the wallet-friendly DDR2.

Therefore, users looking for a heavyweight DDR2 solution will like the look of these:

Those familiar-looking modules consist of Corsair's Q2X8G6400C4DHX - a low-latency 8GB kit that utilises Corsair's Dual-Path Heat Xchange (DHX) technology.

The kit consists of four matched CM2X2048-6400C4DHX DDR2 modules, providing a total 8,192MBs of RAM. Corsair guarantees that the modules will operate together at 800MHz, and at the low latencies of 4-4-4-12.

It's looking ideal, then, for users who're accustomed to running memory-hungry applications, and it'll come backed by Corsair's lifetime warranty.

Our sources tell us to expect the 8GB kit to arrive later this month, but pricing is yet to be determined.

8GB…. Really? Anyone actually utilises that amount of memory?

Vista's Superfetch should enjoy it, even if you don't really need that much for your applications.

And if you think 8GB is overkill…

Only the P45/43 chipsets support 16GB though IIRC…
ATI 790GX also supports 16GB of RAM.
TBH I was expecting 2x4GB on low latency :(
I'm running 4x2GB GSkills for half a year already and they costed me only 110 quid

I use to be on a 16GB system doing alot of design work on Photoshop, and it was impossible to do it on a 4GB system as it would be too slow to even move images!

Just ordered 8GB for my computer to support my needs in Photoshop a few days ago and should come tomorrow :D
