Core i7 looms, but there's still room for more Core 2 parts

As expected, Intel has today confirmed the arrival of three low-cost desktop processor parts; the Core 2 Quad Q8200, the Core 2 Duo E5200 and the entry-level Celeron D 450.

The Core 2 Quad Q8200 is the first of Intel's Q8000 series, and will be built on its 45nm fab. The chip will be run at 2.66GHz, with a 1,333MHz front-side bus and a relatively-low 4MB of L2 cache. The processor is priced at $224 in thousand-unit quantities, making the chip Intel's second cheapest quad-core component - second only to the everlasting Q6600.

Intel's new dual-core part, the Core 2 Duo E5200, is another 45nm chip and offers a 2.5GHz clock, 800MHz front-side bus and 2MB of L2 cache. The processor is Intel's cheapest Core 2 Duo part, priced at a low $84 in thousand-unit quantities, and could prove to be a popular choice among overclockers.

Finally, the entry-level Intel Celeron D 450 is a 65nm part with a 2.2GHz clock speed, 800MHz front-side bus and 512k of L2 cache. It'll be available at a cost of $53.

I wonder if the Q8200 will run at 8x500 for 4ghz? No idea how the other Quads do for FSB overclocking.
The only real problem with quads and high FSB/clock speeds is more the strain they place on the chipset and MOSFETs, which normally becomes a limiting factor wa before any FSB walls.
Looks like Intel is taking a few swipes at AMD's market, low budget. E5200 certainly looks like it could be good for the price, some gaming benchies vs E7200 would be good.

Hexus, oh wonderful wonderous Hexus, will thou be reviewing these?
