Last month, in the wake of drastic price cuts from NVIDIA, various graphics card manufacturers began to offer up to $120 cash back to customers who had already purchased a GeForce GTX 280 or GeForce GTX 260 graphics card.

The offer, available from the likes of XFX, EVGA and BFG, was available to US customers only and we Europeans began to get that sinking feeling.

Today, BFG has acknowledged part of the world outside of the US by accepting rebate requests from European customers. The cash-back incentive offers up to $120 to customers who purchased a GeForce GTX 280 or GeForce GTX 260 graphics card between June 16 and July 16.

BFG's official announcement, along with a few terms and conditions, reads:

Due to recent price drops in the market on the GeForce GTX series graphics cards, BFG is pleased to offer European customers up to $120 USD (based on the model and price paid), who have purchased a BFG GTX 280 or 260 graphics card between June 16 and July 16, 2008.

  • Customers must register their product within 30 calendar days of the purchase date to be eligible for this rebate. For example; if you bought a BFG GTX 260 on July 16, 2008, you must register the card on or before August 15, 2008 (30 days from July 16) to qualify for this rebate
  • You must submit your information to BFG using the form below by August 20, 2008 to see if you qualify
  • After you submit your information, we'll verify your registration and proof of purchase and provide you further details
  • Rebate monies for European customers will be converted from U.S. Dollars (USD) into the currency of the customer’s country. Due to exchange rates at the time of processing, these amounts may vary

The $120 rebate equates to roughly £60, and doesn't provide an offer as generous as that available to US customers. Nonetheless, we're just surprised to see us Europeans getting anything at all.

If you qualify, head on over to the official BFG rebate website to make your claim. Now that BFG has made the offer available to European customers, we're hoping other manufacturers will follow suit.

I don't understand… why didn't they just sensibly price it in the first place…
Because they'll still not lose much, even through offering this. Very few will take advantage, and next to none in pre-built systems (which will account for quite a percentage I'd imagine - most enthusiasts were waiting for the ATI cards before committing), if they can at all.

It's like the cash-back offers on low-end DSLR cameras that Canon and Nikon always seem to have. They rely on some/most not taking advantage of it to make up for those who do.
Then why offer it at all?
Because it sounds good.
Fraz
Because it sounds good.

Not to me :p
