NVIDIA has today added two (somewhat) new SKUs to its GeForce 9 series line-up of graphics cards in the form of the GeForce 9800 GT and GeForce 9500 GT.

The relatively quiet roll-out almost passed us by, but thanks to NVIDIA's partners we've managed to take a closer look at what's on offer.

The GeForce 9800 GT is a 55nm card with a 600MHz GPU clock and 512MiB of GDDR3 clocked at 1,800MHz. If you're thinking the specification sounds familiar, you've every right - it's essentially an 8800 GT with hybrid power and a smaller die size.

The card, effectively a replacement for the 8800 GT, should retail at around £80 and will compete with AMD's Radeon HD 3870 and hugely popular Radeon HD 4850. Interested? Stay tuned for Tarinder's imminent in-depth preview of BFG's GeForce 9800 GT.

Moving on, NVIDIA's second and more interesting new SKU comes in the form of the 9500 GT, a 65nm part targeting the low-end market.

NVIDIA's reference GeForce 9500 GT specification consists of a 550MHz GPU, and shader and memory speeds clocked at 1,400MHz and 800MHz, respectively.

Leadtek already has two models in the pipeline, one with GDDR2 memory and the other with GDDR3. Both cards have a GPU slightly overclocked at 575MHz, and memory clocks in at 1,000MHz and 1,600MHz for the GDDR2 and GDDR3 models, respectively.

The GeForce 9500 GT features a 128bit memory interface, and 32 stream processors. We can expect to see plenty of passively-cooled models, and though we're awaiting official pricing, this one will be dirt cheap. Despite it's low-end price, the 9500 GT could prove to be popular among the HTPC crowd.

Exactly what I was thinking, especially when I saw the phrase “passively-cooled” at the end of the article. :)

Idd… although i think reference coolers are a lot better than they used to be and the fan speeds are usually dynamic so threy would only really spin up when your doing something gfx intensive anyway
both HD4650/HD4670 look way more promising. at least on paper. waiting…
I think “relatively quiet roll-out” is a bit of an understatement - I actually saw these in a magazine advert (for one of nVidia's board partners) before I read about them online.

Definitely the first time that's ever happened to me!
