We've had most of the details on ASUS' Eee Box for a while now, but we've finally got our hands on the last piece of the puzzle; pricing.

The system, officially titled the ASUS Eee Box B202, will reach the UK in August with a very appealing price-tag of £199. It'll be available in black or white models, and will come bundled with a keyboard and mouse.

The compact machine measures just 22.2cm x 17.8cm x 2.7cm and features Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor. There's 1GiB of DDR 2 memory, an 80GiB HDD, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet and a five-in-one memory card reader. Reports vary when it comes to connectivity, but the Eee Box is believed too offer two to three USB 2.0 slots and DVI out.

The real party piece, however, is its ability to mount VESA displays. ASUS states that the Eee Box "mounts VESA LCD displays for the ultimate space-saving solution". Though we're uncertain if that's as standard or via an optional component, it'll mean your Eee Box can be mounted to the rear of VESA-compatible displays. How's that for a tidy solution to go with your TV screen?

It'll ship with Windows XP as standard, but a Linux version will be offered at a later date. ASUS will no doubt be offering multiple configurations, but with a starting price of £199, this one has mass appeal.

Nice - il be having one of them for the mrs!!!! and maybe for the tv - depending on the linux version pricing and ease of upgrade…… bigger hdd time!!!

That's quite a nifty idea, it's a shame it doesn't *quite* have enough ease of use for typical home users though. Give it a nice, cut down linux based media OS designed to host video and music files, a remote control and maybe an optional add on monitor so you can take it portable and it'd be the perfect home entertainment package
Have to see how well it would play 720p and 1080p files through vlc or similar. With a nice lightweight distro of linux it would make a brilliant HTPC. I wonder what linux the linux version will have. I'd probably just move it straight over to mythbuntu or xubuntu anyway…
previews already tell you to forget 1080p as the chipset is too crapola. If they had waited for Poulsbo then that has HD acceleration in the integrated VGA :(

720P works but uses 90% CPU or something like that (if memory serves)

Will be great as a Xvid playback box tho…
