We reported yesterday that AMD could be preparing to shelve its dual-core Kuma processor. Well, it appears the rumours circulating the internet simply weren't true.
According to various websites, motherboard manufacturers had claimed that AMD's 65nm K10-based Kuma processor wouldn't see the light of day due to difficulties in increasing clock speeds.
AMD spokesman, Jake Whitman, has rubbished such claims:
"The speculation is completely untrue," says Whitman. "We're still on track to launch a dual-core--code-named Kuma--part in the second half of '08. It will be 65 nanometres, still be based on the Star's core. So, that's coming."
Kuma was widely believed to debut as a dual-core Phenom X2, but Whitman has refuted any such claims. "We have never said anywhere along the lines that Kuma was somehow associated with Phenom," he said.
It appears, then, that AMD isn't yet ready to let go of its Athlon nomenclature. If Whitman's comments are accurate, and we've no reason to believe otherwise, Kuma will likely take the form of a dual-core 65nm Athlon X2.
