The crew over at Gizmodo managed to bump into Michael Dell at the D: All Things Digital conference. In Mr Dell's hand was a peculiar looking laptop, it wasn't an XPS, and though it kinda looked like an Inspiron, it was far too small for that.

Well, it turns out that the little bubble of colour in Mr Dell's possession was in fact the Mini Inspiron.

The ultra-portable notebook, pictured above, will mark Dell's entry into the rapidly-growing subnotebook market. No official specification is yet available, but the Mini Inspiron is said to feature an 8.9in screen. Three USB ports can also be seen, alongside a card reader, VGA out and Ethernet ports.

Dell is said to be officially launching the product at COMPUTEX next week and claims it to be "the perfect device for the next billion internet users".

We'd be willing to bet there'll be an Intel Atom processor inside, as the Mini Inspiron's innards are likely to match what's on offer from ASUS' Eee and MSI's Wind. Helping to differentiate, however, is a splash of red which certainly works in Dell's favour. The Mini Inspiron could be the best-looking of the lot, and it'll no doubt be available in a rainbow of colours.

Not unexpected but certainly looks the part :)

If they price it right (much lower than HP's model) then it should be a winner :)
So just before the eee 901 comes out, I've found something else to wait for! I've been wanting a subnotebook for some time, but they keep me waiting for the next better thing!

You know what would really make me want one… if it gets remodelled to look like the new inspiron range: (I love the corners, it's like the old design was modeled on a Ford KA, and this is modeled on a Lamborghini!)

That is the only thing tempting me to replace my current Inspiron, is the fact the new one looks so much better than my current one.

Only thing is, I got a rather good deal on this laptop, and as such would find it difficult to get the same again short of a grand on the new model. :(
the keyboard looks awful in andaho's pic, i hate typing on those type its all squidgy and wrong.

at least the press one hexus is using looks to have a real keyboard!
This or an MSI Wind, hmmm… choices, choices.
