Samsung announces world's thinnest 256GiB SSD

Samsung's vice president of memory marketing, Jim Elliott, states that "the notebook PC is on the brink of a second stage of evolution".

What he's referring to, is solid-state drives, namely Samsung's new 256GiB offering.

Pictured above is the Samsung MLC 256GiB SSD, a 256GiB drive that measures just 9.5mm thick. According to Samsung, that makes it the world's thinnest 256GiB SSD. Being slim isn't its only forte, either. The SATA II drive has a read speed of 200MBps, whilst only consuming 0.9Watts.

Samsung claims the drive will become available around September '08 and though it'll no doubt cost an arm and a leg, we already want one.
