Just moments ago, the Apple store went offline and when it returned, it did so with a newly-revised iMac range.

Though the recently redesigned iMac hasn't changed in appearance, it's what's underneath that counts, and herein lie the changes. The iMacs are now available with Intel's 45nm Penryn Core 2 Duo processors, providing 6MiB of L2 cache, a 1066MHz FSB and speeds of up to 3.06GHz.

The base 20in model, featuring a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GiB of RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT, is available at the familiar starting price of £799. The new high-end 24in iMac, powered by a 3.066GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, ups the graphics ante with a 512MiB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS, and is available from £1,389.00.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing said:

"The iMac’s gorgeous aluminium and glass all-in-one design has been an incredible hit with our customers and is just one of the reasons Mac sales are growing three and a half times faster than PC sales. With the latest Intel processors, a faster new graphics option and more memory, customers now have even more reasons to love the iMac."

Isn't it amazing what the Apple marketing machine is capable of?

No other PC vendor (and lets face it, Apple is a PC vendor whether they like it or not, it might run OSX and be in a fancy case, but they are just PCs) gets anywhere near this kind of coverage when they bump a processor or graphics card option.

And what kind of bizarre online store has to be taken offline just so they can add a product, a couple of options or change a spec? Is no one on the web dev team capable of adding a hidden product and just enabling it with a simple command?

But then I guess that would undermine the intrigue and mystery in posting a “back soon” notice…

I guess you're not a Mac user?
I guess he isn't………..
Why would it matter?

Or does being a Mac user mean I would crave any little over hyped spec increse to my beloved range of systems? Declaring Jobs as being the saviour of all that is good and pure?
I prefer my laptops to be protable…

:D

Don't hurt me *cowers away*
