Looking for an 8.9in Eee? Might want to wait.
Just yesterday we reported that ASUS would be launching its new-and-improved Eee PC 900, in both Windows and Linux flavours, on May 1st.
We stated that when Intel's Atom processor becomes available, we'd be willing to bet on the launch of an Atom-based Eee, the machine we labelled an 'Eee PC 900A'.
Well, turns out we were right. ASUS representatives, speaking to TechRadar, have spilt the beans. Helen Ling, of ASUS UK, is quoted to have said that an Atom-based Eee would likely appear "end of June in UK, I would have thought." She then added, "I think it should be after Computex".
Perhaps trying to make it less blatantly obvious, ASUS' Iain Bristow then provided the following statement:
"We all know that Atom is on its way, and obviously all our competitors are saying ‘we’re going to have an Atom machine'. While there hasn’t been anything directly confirmed - I couldn’t possibly say ‘yes there’s going to be one’ - I’d be very surprised if there wasn’t."
We hear you Iain, and we too would be very surprised if there wasn't. An Atom-powered Eee would provide enhanced battery life and could cost less than the Eee PC 900.
Therefore, has the Celeron-packing Eee PC 900, which lands in two weeks, completely lost its value? We think so, and we can't see many tech-savvy users rushing out to buy one now that they know a newer and further improved model is just around the corner.
