MID marketing starts here

We've already made it clear that "2008 is the year of the Intel Atom". Formerly known by its codename, Silverthorne, Atom is Intel's low-power processor based on its 45nm manufacturing process.

Atom chips measure in at around 25mm² in size and are extremely cheap to manufacture, ingredients which should, in theory, allow Atom to steal the limelight in mobile devices this year.

Intel has poured millions of dollars into developing Atom and will be hoping to reap the benefits as mobile devices become increasingly popular. At the forefront of Intel's plans are Mobile Internet Devices, or MIDs as you'll get to know them, and here is one of Intel's first advertisements for the device it hopes will take the planet by storm:

It doesn't tell us anything we don't already know, and boasts the familiar, but all important features such as improved battery life and fully-featured Internet on the go.

So, dear readers, the MID hype-machine has started, are you excited by it? Share your thoughts in the HEXUS forums.
