HEXUS has been keeping track of retail GeForce 9800 GX2 pricing since its launch, on Tuesday. The card is super-fast and will appeal to readers who game at resolutions of 1,920x1,200, and above - perfect for those 24- and 30-inch monitors.

Stock was scarce on launch day and the average price for cards listed at four leading UK-directed etailers - Scan, Dabs, eBuyer, and Komplett - was £431.25. Compare that with the £399 on-street pricing intimated by NVIDIA.

Day-one pricing (Wednesday) averaged £425.58 for the 18 cards we looked at, with eight in stock.

With stock now pervasive in the channel, pricing should start falling further, but only one etailer, as far as we can tell, has taken the proverbial knife to its margins.

Out of the nine cards listed by Scan, six are now in stock. Pricing is such that it's now possible to buy a retail card for less than £400.

Current pricing, with in-stock cards hyperlinked, is as follows:

ASUS (£434.73); BFG (£393.60); eVGA (£422.98); Gainward (£399.48); Gigabyte (£399.49); Leadtek (£405.36); MSI (£410.06), Palit (£387.73); and XFX (£399.48).

What's more, UK-based HEXUS.community readers can benefit from free shipping, too.

The ultimate Easter present, perhaps?

Still too expensive for a single graphics card? Are you contemplating buying one now. What's the most you've ever paid for a graphics card? We'd love to here your thoughts.

Hmmm holiday or GX2….?
400 quid?

Crikey.

I'd be tempted - if I had anything (at all) that ran badly right now (1600x1200).
A few years back I used to be really into the latest greatest PC components. I remember splashing out a few hundred quid on a 9800XT when it first launched - boy did that thing get hot and boy was it a waste of money.

Since then, I've totally toned down my PC builds and my current system has a decent core 2 duo, 4GBs of RAM and a bog-standard HD 2600 graphics card.

As for gaming, I found myself ending up on consoles (Xbox 360 at the moment), I just found it easier in the end.

Taking a look at the 9800 GX2 prices, I can't believe how expensive they are. Yep, I know they're the cream of the crop and out perform anything else, console or otherwise. But still, £400 for one component? :surprised:

Personally, I'd take the £400 and buy an Xbox 360 AND a Nintendo Wii, I'd get about £70 change too. :surrender:
In other news the 8800gtx is hovering around the £200 mark jsut £50 more to drop and Im game for it.
