Another manufacturer taking the fight to ASUS
ASUS' popular EeePC was only going to have the low-cost notebook market to itself for so long.
Last week, Everex announced its forthcoming CloudBook and today, reports from China suggest that Acer aren't far behind.
Acer, the third largest computer manufacturer in the world, is reported to be preparing low-cost notebooks featuring 8" and 9" displays for release in late Q1 or early Q2. Though little else is known in terms of specification, a Chinese-language Commercial Times report states that the Acer offering will compete directly with ASUS' EeePC and be priced competitively.
According to the paper, Wistron will be producing the low-cost notebooks for Acer and the LCD panels used in the devices will be provided by AU Optronics.
The battle for dominance in the low-cost notebook market is just beginning and we'd expect a lot of competition for ASUS' EeePC from various manufacturers in the coming year.
