High-tech pyjamas promise a perfect nights sleep

If you want to be one of the first in the UK to get a perfect nights sleep whilst wearing the latest high-tech pyjamas, book a room at one of the following Travelodge hotels; Heathrow T5, Birmingham Fiveways, Bristol Central, Manchester Central and Edinburgh Central.

That's where they'll be trialling itch-free pyjamas developed for Travelodge after the hotel chain conducted a survey of 3,000 British adults to determine what factors affected our sleep. The survey found that:

  • 23% of Brits said they suffer from itchy night clothes which stops them from getting a good night's sleep
  • Being too hot / cold is a common complaint for Brits with 66% confirming their body temperature changes constantly throughout the night which affects their sleep pattern
  • More people feel too hot (54%) in comparison to feeling cold (35%) whilst sleeping

The answer, pictured below, is a pair of pyjamas made from a revolutionary fabric called 'Dermasilk' which is said to feel like a second skin.

Itch-free pyjamas

The pyjamas allow the skin to breathe, regulate body temperature (in both hot and cold conditions) and maintain the skin's moisture balance. The unique material used to produce the pajamas is said to also reduce the symptoms of scratching and is therefore ideal for users who suffer from skin conditions such as eczema.

Leigh McCarron, Travelodge Sleep Director said: "As a retailer of sleep, we are constantly investigating innovative ways, on how we can help our customers attain a good night's sleep. Something as simple as changing your bed attire can dramatically affect your quality of sleep."

"To support our pjs trial, we conducted a sleepwear study, which examined the nation's attitude towards nightwear. These findings have been incorporated into our final pyjama prototype - resulting in the ultimate sleepwear".

The pyjamas, or sleepwear as Travelodge like to call them, are available for both men and women in a variety of sizes and consist of; leggings, long sleeved t-shirts, gloves, socks and a facial mask.

I've never found anything comfortable to wear when I'm in bed and I'm eager to try these new pyjamas. They're probably best worn when you're on your own mind you, I can't see many couples getting familiar with these, they're not the most attractive and consist of far too many components for quick undressing.

Mind you… they don't leave much to the imagination do they? That material looks a bit… err… see-through. (and the model might, but I definitely don't sleep in my brassiere.)
You never know, there could be some couples that find this sort of clothing a turn-on… role-play anyone?

I wonder if they will develop crotchless versions.. *ahem*
