It's still very, very expensive

Good news for Irish mobile phone users keen to get their hands on Apple's iPhone. The headline-grabbing device will be coming to Ireland's O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores on March 14th.

Available in both 8GB and 16GB models, the iPhone will retail at €399 and €499 respectively.

As in the UK, the iPhone will be exclusive to mobile operator O2 and come tied with an 18 month contract. O2's iPhone tariffs will range from a slightly expensive €45 to a whopping €100 per month.

Apple's chief operating officer, Tim Cook, stated recently that the company still hopes to reach its target of 10 million iPhone sales by the end of the year. With these prices Tim, it won't be easy.

Danuta Gray, CEO of O2 Ireland remains optimistic and said:

"The iPhone is changing the way people use their mobiles forever, and we're thrilled to offer it to O2 customers in Ireland. Our strategy in Ireland continues to be to bring our customers the very best innovations and experiences in mobile communications."

Though the iPhone is an expensive prospect for most buyers, what really frustrates European customers is the price inflation forced upon non-US buyers.

In the US, Apple's 8GB iPhone retails at $399, that's approximately €265 or £200. A whole lot less than what we're expected to pay at O2 stores.
