Taking shape

GLOBALFOUNDRIES, the semiconductor manufacturing company recently spun-off from AMD, continues to develop its executive team with the appointment of Gregg Bartlett as senior vice president of technology, research and development.

Bartlett spent 25 years at Freescale Semiconductor and Motorola, which Freescale was spun-off from in 2004. Tellingly, he was also the Freescale representative in the IBM semiconductor alliance, which GLOBALFOUNDRIES intends to use for R&D collaboration and other efficiencies.

He's also the board chairman for the Semiconductor Research Corporation and a member of the Semiconductor Industry Association's Technology Steering Committee

"Gregg brings a wealth of experience in both the collaborative development of advanced technology and its application to a variety of products," said Doug Grose, CEO of GLOBALFOUNDRIES. "He also understands what it takes to transition from an internal supply chain to an independent, customer-focused company."

"The semiconductor industry is poised to greatly increase its reliance on foundries," said Bartlett. "Yet this business model will succeed only if independent foundries can innovate and develop the most advanced technologies. GLOBALFOUNDRIES is just the catalyst to make this happen."

Bartlett succeeds Craig Sander, who was the R&D leader during the initial launch of GLOBALFOUNDRIES, and who stays on at the company to handle ‘special projects'.
