Sony Europe today (Friday) announced the appointment of Mr. Masaru Tamagawa as the new President of the Company, effective July 1, 2012.
The current President, Mr Fujio Nishida, will step up to become Chairman of Sony Europe to oversee the transformation programme currently being implemented throughout Sony's consumer electronics operations in Europe, and to ensure a seamless management transition.
Mr Tamagawa has been Managing Director of Sony India since 2007 where he has overseen a growth business, increasing revenues - ensuring Sony holds the top share of the Indian electronics market. He previously led Sony Gulf, based in Dubai.
He is also a key advocate of ‘One Sony' and convergence - leveraging the mutual and unique strengths of the company's entertainment and electronics businesses.
Sony Corporation's new President and Chief Executive Officer, Kazuo Hirai, said today (Friday): "Europe is one of Sony's most important markets. While the uncertainty around the Euro currency and economic instability have had a big impact on sales over recent years, Mr. Tamagawa's unique expertise, drive and dedication to frontline sales and marketing operations will help us overcome the current challenging business environment, and put Sony Europe firmly on the path to the future growth."
