Final thoughts and rating

the Enermax Revolution87+ 850W is a high-quality supply that mixes it well with the very best PSUs on the market.

We've evaluated our fair share of PSUs in the last year. The one striking aspect has been just how closely high-quality supplies benchmark against each other. Our numbers show that minor performance differences are only highlighted through the use of expensive power-supply-testing equipment.

Our analysis therefore indicates that, for most users, it's worth saving some cash and opting for a decent supply that carries an 80 PLUS Gold rating. There's so much more to a supply than efficiency, of course, and our testing shows the Enermax's Revolution87+ is solid in every area.

We understand that the pace of development in consumer PSUs is likely to be slow in forthcoming years, so we encourage the likes of Enermax to look at the wider picture - flat cables and silent-fan running, for example - and improve other facets of the supply.

In summary, the Enermax Revolution87+ 850W is a high-quality supply that mixes it well with the very best PSUs on the market. We'd recommend dropping the Ā£150 price a little, to stop people myopically comparing against same-priced 'better' Platinum models, but that's about it. Thinking of a high-end Intel Haswell build? Then do at least consider the Revolution87+.

The Good

Platinum-like performance
Very good ripple and regulation
Quiet at all times
Sensible cabling

The Bad

Doesn't have advanced software control, like some

Too many watts for my liking, although nice efficiency at 10%.
I've generally picked med-high end Enermax PSU's because I know they are going to last, I've yet to have a failure. However, a few other brands have caught my eye recently so the next build won't be a quick decision.
Those cables are a deal breaker, very unattractive.
Seriously? What is your preference?
