I stopped playing Ingress last year, which I did enjoy (till they ruined it), so figured I'd give it a go. Enjoying it so far. Bumped into a few people also playing it. A lot more girls play this lol
I value my phone's battery life too much, and - for that matter - my relationship too.
Nearly crashed into half a dozen Pokemon Go players on my lunchtime run today - they're certainly a bit of a health and safety risk! I do like the idea of a computer game that gets people up and about though, so I'm cautiously positive on it for now.
Pretty much hooked already, but it's the reason I've met my step goals all week as it's meant I've wanted to leave my desk at work during my lunch break which is no bad thing
Enjoying it so far, mostly harmless fun, and I enjoy taking pictures of Pokemon in amusing situations (that'll fade away soon I'm sure).
I can't talk about the longevity aspect yet. The game is clearly a grinder, albeit one with a unique selling point.
I won't be spending any money in it though. Sadly that does really limit the rate that I can evolve pokemon.
I don't want to get locked in a dark basement by some old dude. I also don't want to cause a huge car crash. So no thanks :D
hey great for under 16's but come on for those over 18-20 .. not got anything else in your life ? take up fishing least your going to catch somthing real .. :)
It's possibly the saddest thing to have come out in years, I can't believe grown adults are addicted to this and behaving like mindless zombies whilst ‘playing’ it. I'd rather stick pickled onions up my behind than waste my life with Pokemon
Maybe it should be each to their own rather than complaining about who is playing a game or not.
Haven't tried.

Seems to make some people paranoid and hating on gamers though :stupid:
I had a lady (I assume only in the 18-22 range) at my workplace ask me if I could hatch some Pokemon eggs for her; I overheard her mention about being far enough away or something. No idea how it works, I assume you get special ones in different actual locations. Earlier in the day another one of my colleagues said his kids were playing the game, so I kind of realised what was going on, but still, I wasn't expecting someone to randomly ask me about it.
Just what we need… even more people with their heads buried in their phones not looking where they're going…
I wasn't interested 20 years ago. Certainly aren't now.

PM me your address and I'll send you some. :)

:naughty:
It is better than people sitting with their heads buried in the phone… now they get around at least… besides been wondering if I should just go on the wave myself, could be fun even though I am 30+ hehe =)
It's not just Pokémon Go but all smart phone users that should be ignored.
Tried it and it's okay but feels like it lacks substance. Actually makes me want to go back and play the proper Pokemon games.
Giving people the motivation to walk around is good but if i saw someone on a walk in the lake district playing pokemon go i'd feel like you're missing out on something.
Eats battery, 3000mah munched in 2.5 hours!!! Crashes at busy times catching pokemon. Game freezes and requires regular restarts on our android device, works great in town but in the country side with poor signal and very few spawning pokemon it's a drag. Also found that all our local gyms had been captured by early players before release with high cp pokemon 800+cp, our daughter is 8 and has no chance at competing unless she grinds 3+ hours a day which will not happen, so think many will have to wait for addition features and better reliability before enjoying a better experience. If it was stable, reliable and more inclusive I see potential for broader appeal but as it is think a lot of users will give up if reliability issues are not addressed.
I've enjoyed playing it with my children, whether or not it has any staying power is to be seen but it's a nice distraction.
It's Geocaching for the dumb.
Wow I must be getting old. I think I'd get more fun spending the evening hammering a rusty nail through my left testicle and pouring lemon juice on it. I'm turning into my into my old man….. come to think of it he was always a bit weird!

I like the way she just presumes people have really horrific motives despite even stating herself that she has seen images of groups of people making new friends and enjoying it. Perhaps if she wound her neck in she might actually experience some of the same thing.
Ive downloaded it but havent really played it. I think Ill play it with the little one next time I see her (this weekend).
It's fun. It's nice and casual and hilarious to see all the people whinging about it. If this upsets you, please get a life.
Me and my girlfriend play it whilst walking the dog and I've seen plenty of people who are out only to play pokemon which I think is a good thing.
I'm hooked and I don't even like pokemon :P I was always more of a Ben 10 kid ;)
I was far too old by the time Pokemon arrived to love the characters, and the app is pretty barebones (plus it's far too unreliable). Even so, I think it's very worthwhile. The more familiar you are with your surroundings, the more likely you are to walk the very shortest paths, or even not to walk at all. Something that encourages people to look around and walk a longer route has got to be a good thing. It puts a smile on my face to see a group of people clumping around a spot and knowing why it's happening, and I like seeing strangers chatting to each other too.
I think it's good to get people out and adding a new social aspect. I'm quite impressed at how accepted it is, though it could be a bit of a fad that will die down. I haven't really seen the gameplay myself so I don't know if it'd be a bit too basic. It is something I could try out, but atm I don't have a 3g/4g connection paid for so won't bother :D. Plus my phone is pretty old too.
Indifferent would be an understatement.
Just had a quick look. Ironically, Pokémon Go is not available in Japan. I can just imagine the chaos it would cause if a rare Pokémon was to appear in Shibuya crossing or near Shinjuku station though
Its not available here in France yet and I never really understood the allure of Pokemon, i'm willing to give it a go if it works on tablets but it sounds sort of dull.
Well I would love to play it but I'm on Windows Phone and the pain is real :(
Love it! Made me exercise!

Wow…
I just had a look at her twitter actually. Typical modern social justice douche bag who thinks its acceptable for her to publicly ‘shame’ whoever she doesn't like but cannot take criticism when it comes flying back at her!
That being said, I can imagine her article probably brought the worst of internet out to play… twitter is such a cesspool.
I'm 30, so since 1992, I've been too old to participate in anything Pokémon-related.
Well, I am 31 and am playing it..and despite it being very “thin” on content, I have enjoyed it and crucially it's got my more active than usual. For example, yesterday I needed to go to the shops for some milk..I would typically jump in the car and nip to Tesco, however instead I walked to the corner shop, racked up 0.4km on hatching an egg and caught 2 pokemon. It reminds me of a 15 year old me too who spent far too many hours playing an imported copy of Pokemon Red - great memories.
I hear the same story again and again - like Pokemon or not, this app is getting people active and walking about in the real world.
In a time when waistlines are expanding and we have a real problem with childhood obesity, thats a magical thing. If you can get people walking 30 minutes a day more than usual, that can make a HUGE difference to overall health.
The key really will be it's longevity - if they add in friends list, battles (other than @ Gyms) and keep adding pokemon (which they can - it only has 120ish out of the 800 that are in the other games) then it will have legs. They just need to get past the current server issues first!

and trading, it really needs trading!
Hard to say, owning a windows phone does tend to force you to miss mobile releases
Captain Cave Man enough said really :)

Impressed that it gets gamers off their backsides. I just wish they had a game using the same technique for adults.
today i went past an alleyway i often have to pass by, which unfortunately people urinate in as it's off a main street, and once or twice in recent months someone has been physically attacked, so i'm wary when going down it, and just as i enter it there's a weird guy walking round in circles looking at his phone, and looking very shady as he's about 40 and either up to no good or playing a computer game for kids
on the way back there were a couple of other halfwits wandering around with mobile phones in the alley too, so obviously it's a hot spot for pokemon idiots. well done to nintendo for choosing a place where drunks urinate and people get mugged, which isn't lit at night, for people to play games on £600 mobile phones
but as someone else i spoke to said, its natural evolution. if you are stupid enough to die from playing a computer game, like the folk who fell off a cliff in america, it's probably for the best
I think I don't give a hoot. It doesn't interest me at all, but if others get a kick from it, good luck to them. It doesn't seem to be actively doing anyone any harm, so what I make of it is …. ho hum, whatever.
Too new to post a link but find the video on Youtube called “Pokemon Go - Vaporeon stampede Central Park, NYC”
Apparently this is what happens when a rare Pokemon appears.
Pretty hilarious but the burn out factor on this game has got to be high. It's like Google Glass meets Flappy Bird and Wii Fit.

She comes across as an attention seeking troll :tomato:
Been playing a little and my biggest disappointment is that there's no Pokemon in the countryside and crazy amounts at Tesco's. Apparently the spawns are based off of heat maps of mobile data signals
We where shopping in Asda's on Friday and there where bunches of kids going around the store with their heads buried in their phones playing this completely oblivious to everything going on around them. It's bad enough in stores as it is without mobile phone zombies going around in their own personal world. In the end they were escorted out of the store due to the chaos they were causing. It's quite pathetic really.
Never been one for that particular flavour of kool-aid.
Pokemon just depresses me. Reminds me of my school days which is never a good thing. I also dislike hype and this game is so hyped I couldn't possibly like it
Some of us have been playing Ingress for well over three years now!;)
Kind of disappointed. It's only fun if you are in a crowded area. If you live far in the suburbs, you have almost no pokemon spawning. Hell, I'm on a lake right now and there is literally not a single pokemon. This is bad.
I'm ambivalent to it. Wasn't into it back in the 90s, not interested now. I did see an interesting quote though, it was something along the lines of:
Those complaining about ‘sad nerds’ going around trying to catch these things are quite happy to sit in front of their tellies for hours at a time, not interacting.
I'm not interested, it does seem a bit like animal cruelty/concentration camp-ish, but if other people want to do it, that's their choice.
I'm pleased with how well it seems to be doing, and it looks technically very impressive - but I have no interest in playing it at all. The Mrs downloaded it and as we live in a fairly quiet part f the world (with terrible mobile signal on most networks), there wasn't much for her to do.
Wish it would go away.
Already sick of the increase in tards not looking where they are walking.
In the uk, if this gets people out of the house and healthier (obviously if they pay attention to surroundings), this might save the NHS some money. A large part of the NHS budget goes on long term health issues (70%, apparantly), one of the biggest being circulatory disease. It's possible the extra exercise people do will improve their general health and in turn help the health service!
It's a bit sad for adults to play it.
Think in its essence it's a great concept: it's brilliant that it's encouraging people to get outside, group up, get talking, check out local points-of-interest etc.
Not so hot on the way it's so heavily focussed on urban centres. If anything, I think it should put more emphasis on encouraging people to go more out of the way to parks, national landmarks etc – areas that can handle it. My main concerns all come down to the practical implications of having hundreds of people wandering around congested urban centres, amid heavy road & pedestrian traffic, totally glued to their smartphone – people are already clueless enough.
The responsibility ultimately lies with the players, but the devs should make it easier for people to play without needing to be entirely focussed on their phone. E.g. make it so the app can be run from a pocket, implement toggleable & configurable push notifications/alerts etc.

Google Glass V2 could make a killing this Festive Period
To be honest I don't have the game. But the wife does, and I haven't seen her since last Thursday - so yeah it's a great game :D

I've only seen adults play it so far. The local park has been taken over by people aged 15-50 playing Pokemon Go. I'm on Windows Phone so have no option other than observe this craze!
Not tried it. I do like the alpha and omega ones on the 3ds, but I'm not a big fan of games on mobile. Plus, my phone is about 3 years old now, don't want it to die…
I've been playing it and so is my wife (and son when his new sim card turns up!) We went out for a meal with friends on Sunday evening, and left the house early so we could go for a walk in a nearby park beforehand (as it's packed with Pokestops!), something which we wouldn't normally do. The park was a lot fuller than it would normally be, so it seems it's getting more people out walking, which can only be a good thing.
It seems that the locations of Pokestops and gyms are taken from the Ingress game, so you can check out likely locations on the Ingress web site. Apparently trading and battles with friends etc. is all on Niantic's plan going forward, hopefully after they've fixed the problems with the servers and Pokemon tracking.
I've played several iterations of Pokemon on several platforms.
I just can't get behind Pokemon Go, it feels too much like a watered down version of the real game, stripped bare of all the depth and the mechanics that made me interested in the game.
Pokemon's entry barrier has always been the fact that you had to have a handheld console, which is not really common.
From Nintendo's point of view it's a golden eggs goose, but for a veteran player looks like a commercial gimmick.
Love it, harmless fun and as an aware, responsible adult, I am able to form my own opinions without the help of the Daily Mail and am careful to look where I am walking and when/where to slide my phone in to my pocket out of sight.
Not so happy about a comment “I've actually seen people older than you playing it” and probably was a poor choice hunting for ghost pokemon walking through a churchyard latish last night - very unsavoury characters lurking in the shadows.
Sorry, must off, gotta catch some more.
Haven't played too much, but initial thoughts are that it could become quite additive.
