Back to the manual, the mini DisplayPort is supporting 4K60 playback, so you don't need HDMI 2.0.
So if you are using as an HTPC/Streamer how many TV's support DisplayPort - not many. Might be some adapters come along but will they also carry the audio and HDR metadata??
I think they should all swap over to having just a Thunderbolt 3/ USB 3.1 type “C” and come with appropriate adapters or a multiport hub (example - a hub with a HDMI + USB 3 + DP + et cetera). I always find it odd how they keep mixing and matching the ports, when from what I have read (please comment about this - what do you think), that you could get these ports to do it all. Get rid of the “which type of cable do I need now”.
But I do agree that if they are up to putting in a Skylark processor, it should really be given the latest ports (USB 3.1 standard and type “C”, HDMI 2.0). Or is that planned for a upgraded model (manufactured obsolescence) or maybe a third party model (similar to when Gigabyte had a upgraded AMD GPU in some earlier NUC models for gaming).
I would love to just have in my drawer one type of cable and some adapters, instead of what I have at the moment - a huge pile of different types of cables and adapters (USB this, USB that, USB this to that, esata, lightening, mini DP, DVI something, HDMI this or HDMI that et cetera). Have to keep rummaging around for the right one, what a pain in the but. :-)
Which would you prefer?
