16TB storage pool right out of the box. Please tell me I'm reading that wrong and it's not a 4 disk raid0 out of the box….
Posted by Tarinder - Tue 05 May 2015 15:30
You can set it up any way you want when you win it. :)

Of course, but it sounds like a slightly insane default setup! Ok, this probably isn't the type of device your “average” person would buy, but I'm sure there are more than a few people who will buy these and just accept the default settings, putting potentially a huge amount of data at risk.

I know people should have backups and RAID != backup, but putting 16TB of data at risk on a 4 disk raid0 just doesn't bear thinking about!

I wonder why the competition page doesn't have a link to the EX4100 review done a couple of months back - http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/storage/81856-wd-my-cloud-ex4100/ ?

Looks like a very positive review - good performance, low noise and power usage, good price. Only slight weakness seems to be the OS, which I think is a Debian Linux variant, and even then nothing too damning.

Very nice prize for whoever wins it!

Would love to win one. I have an Acquired Brain Injury + ADHD & my PC buggad up:)
I desperately need a PC to prepare Children's Court Documents for a hearing during week beginning 13 July 2015 to regain Custody of my little ones stolen illegally by the WA Department of Child Protection and Family Services via an Affidavit filed filled with half truths and Perjury denying me and my little ones due process and Natural Justice:(!

Would love something like this. Sick of the missus not backing up lol. Would give her a reason to.

I want to win this! Would be so epic, one 4TB for safe data with another for backing this data up. And the other two 4TB ones as raw space for whatever is easily recoverable. I wish my current drives were healthy ;-;. One healthy new WD 2TB Red, one Barracuda 2TB dead after 7 months from purchase, and one 1TB WD Green I bought 5 years ago which also had windows on it lasted me this long and now it's reaching it's limits. After this long lasting drive from WD I'm always recommending WD :D, just recently ordered a WD blue for my neighbor :D.

Hi.Can I as who the other winner is?

I have nothing to do with competitions, but my guess would be that winner #2 is not yet certain.

The usual process is that winners are notified by email, using the address used in the entry. To collect, they have to react to that email within the period that ought to be defined in the competition. If no response is received, eventually the time expires and the next in line, I.e. third place in this case, gets an email and #2 has lost the prize.

So, until the second winner responds, it's not clear who it is.

EDIT … And, of course, that email is utterly necessary. Competition entries do not include delivery address, the contact phone number required by couriers, etc. That's all dealt with by email.
