As big a fan as I am of Windows7, I'm in agreement with the “between the lines” of this article. If you've got the 612 tablet then why wouldn't Windows8.1 - with it's finger friendly interface - be preferable to the older OS?

I don't think this'll be a budget model, and I'll be surprised if the “full house” x2 612 isn't into four figures for the base model.

Not sure I'd describe this as “HP's answer to the Surface Pro3” since I thought the whole point of the Surface Pro's was that Microsoft OEM's would do their own respins. Just wish we'd see more folks doing the budget WindowsRT tablets too.

Actually seems a nice alternative to the surface pro 3 if you do a lot of typing… I do wish they'd have said the res and price though…

The gen available here says that it's “Full HD”, which I take to mean 1920x1080. Given it's only a 12“ screen that'd be fine for me - and yes I know that it's relatively low res in these days where you can get a phone with a 5.5” screen that has nearly twice that number of pixels.

The Wacom pen thing looks good - 1024 levels of pressure seems like it could be useful for sketches etc for architects etc (maybe even a little light Hockneyesque tablet art). Shame that it's an (expensive?) optional extra, but I realise that not everyone would use it. I've got a Galaxy Note tablet so I'm biased.
