I've got an Xperia P, received it as a gift.
I only have one thing to say about it: Don't buy it.
Sony xperia z ultra
yes i love it and yes its huge but i do not care it does everything i want it to
Got the moto G when it was released, before that i had an xperia arc s
I bought the Huawei h300 for myself. 40 pounds and I'm hoping to see what it can do when rooted and emptied of any bloatware. Phone meets my needs for Twitter whatsapp Skype a viber online banking etc. Bought the Mrs a moto g that will meet further requirements if there is any, the moto is a great phone very responsive to the touch with no noticeable lag, kitkat seems to have freed a bit of storage space but shame there is no SD slot though
htc one brilliant phone no problems good battery
Htc one
I like it, but low light shots tend to replace black with blue..
Got a Moto G on a £12.50 a month contract with decent minutes last week. It replaced my venerable Desire HD which lasted nearly 3 years (and made me £60 on fleabay!).
The Moto G is really excellent for the price. Battery life puts the DHD to shame, screen is nice, only real drawbacks are lack of expandable storage and a pretty poor camera (nowhere near as good as my last phone). You simply can't beat it without spending another £100 or more.
Lumia 920. And yes, I enjoy it quite much. (despite the scarce variety of apps on the store)
Motorola Razr i. Had it over a year, it was cheap. Works fine, beyond that don't care.
Blackbery bold, which is three or four years old, so I'll probably be upgrading at some point to something like an iPhone 6s or 7s.
But to me a phone is just a tool for a job, not a fashion accessory, so when/if I do upgrade, it'll be to the most appropriate device for my needs at the time.
Using Nokia Lumia 920… sticking to it until it wont get update anymore…
S4 Active (i9295) with CM11.2
It's not perfect but it is very nice having a waterproof/dust proof phone I don't have to worry about so much when on the bike, running or sitting on a pub table getting drinks spilt everywhere :P
Samsung Galaxy S3 for me - put in a pre-launch order from Amazon and haven't seen anything since that has been better enough to make me want to change. PowerAmp and CoPilot take care of the music playing and satnav duties.
Before that it was a Sony Xperia X10 - nicer looking phone than the S3, with a better camera than the S3, but Sony's lack of support messed it up for me. Just wish Sony would do something that looked like the old Xperia Arc S rather than the plast-o-slabs that the Xperia line has become.
iOcean X7. Pretty good phone for the price. It's just a shame MediaTek are so unhelpful with their frameworks. The dev community have done pretty well for what they do have though.
SonyEricsson T610. Yep, ten years old but still best.
Sony Xperia U, since I updated it to a newer version of android it does alot more but lags and freezes all the time, but other than that, I love it!
HTC One.
A return to HTC after a good few years of Samsung, and favourite phone I've ever owned.
Stunning design (admittedly lifted wholesale from Dieter Dams), built like a tank, and came with gimmicks I now will need from my next phone.
Camera was the bravest choice 4MP sounds like they've bailed from the megapixel race - but that produces great 4MP images in pretty much any condition. Only better camera out there is on a Nokia, but until they do Android, no tough decisions to be made.
Speakers. Something I'd never even considered when buying a phone before, but the horrifically named ‘BoomSound’ really is fantastic. Actually getting stereo when listening without headphones, or just dropping your phone on a table and using it as a conference phone was a revelation. Seeing as ‘decent speakers’ aren't exactly proprietary, I'm hoping this won't be an issue when I'm selecting my next phone.
Yes, there are quibbles. Built in battery wasn't ideal, but not a real issue after the initial firmware patch. Lack of expandable memory - OK, that's still unforgivable. Most annoying thing about this was that they didn't even seem to be doing it to force you to the 64Gb unit, as it was practically impossible to get as it was a carrier exclusive.
I got a Galaxy Note 3 and it is by far the best device ever. It runs like a beast and the screen is awesome. Android is good too ( came from Blackberry). Very customisable and quick. I can see now why blackberry is filling. So far behind.
Still getting along with my Galaxy Nexus just fine. Thinking of sticking CyanogenMod 11 nightly on it for the Android 4.4 promised-land of smooth lower-end performance.
Nokia 6610 - great battery life, small, lightweight. Everything a phone should be.
Was on a iPhone 4 for a couple of years and I got on pretty well with it; was still on iOS 5 as I was very happy with that after installing some JB tweaks (Zephyr, SBSettings, Iconoclasm and AdBlocker for those that are interested) and I didn't feel a need to upgrade as the iPhone 4S, 5 and 5S didn't seem to bring anything new
(for me) other than a speed upgrade.
Decided to try Android a few months ago and at the beginning, as with all change, I was a bit reluctant to accept it - I had trouble with finding an Android version of Zephyr, AdBlocker didn't work, and I didn't like how the App Drawer worked versus how I had the homescreens set up with Iconoclasm. However, I did manage to find similar tweaks on the phone without rooting and now I'm very happy with it.
For those that are wondering, I'm on a HTC One and I love it. The only other alternatives were probably the S3 and S4 but I don't like the design of those at all and I wanted something different from an iPhone. I installed Swipe Home to allow me to open up the task switcher by swipping up from the bottom (Android version of Zephyr) and bought the Pro version of Nova Launcher which allows me to hide junk in the app drawer, rearrange the home screen nicely and allow me to change the grid size too (Android version of Iconoclasm I'd say).
Only things I dislike about the HTC One is that it has a weaker battery life than the iPhone 5 (I assume this is due to the larger screen, 4.7“ vs 3.5” is a big difference) and that it's a little harder to use ergonomically due to the size of the phone (again, a 4.7“ phone vs a 3.5” phone is a big jump) but it could be that my hands aren't massive, they're probably on the smaller to average size. I'm a bit of an OCD person too, so I also found the icons in the notification bar quite annoying, they could have easily put H/3G together with the signal bar and battery percentage with the battery icon. There are probably tweaks for it, but I'm not so annoyed that I would go and search for it.
Screenshot of my homescreen using Nova Launcher. (Default background)
All in all, I'm quite a basic user when it comes to a phone, I just check my mail, text, play a few phone games, read the news (I forgot to mention that I do quite like HTC's implementation of BlinkFeed for news) and use it lightly for studying (may download documents/lecture notes and edit them using the free built-in POLARIS Office 5 then reupload them to the cloud or something - my iPad Mini doesn't play nicely with some pdf files so that's why I grab them off the uni site then reupload them to my cloud to open them on the iPad; I'm even thinking of selling my iPad Mini and getting an Android tablet. However, as I'm in final year of uni, I do have to use a statistical package, R, a lot more so I'm considering getting a Windows 8 convertible.. Ahh, choices!)
HTC Windows phone 8X.
Have always liked HTC phones, build quality / construction has always been good.
I like the Windows phone OS but there are niggles with the actual phone, principally the position of the on/off button and the volume button. The on/off button is easily activated when in your pocket, switching the phone off and the volume button is so sensitive that it goes down when holding the phone and also when sliding it into protective sleeve.
Will though perhaps go back to Android, like the Nexus 5 and the LG G2.
Just a thought.
Why not link the weekly question with the poll?

i`ve had a nexus 4 for the past year and loved it….until i dropped it down the toilet (not waterproof don`t try it lol). now replaced with the nexus 5 which i love even more….one awsome phone
I have a Galaxy S2, it does everything I want from a smartphone, however, even with Cynaogenmod 4.3 installed, battery life is less than 8hrs in moderate use unless I adjust push notifications to extended intervals.
So the only disappointment is battery life….open to suggestions on which phone would perform better if I were to upgrade.
Galaxy note 3. Had to make a return to android as ios wasnt doing what i wanted (too closed in both hardware and software choices)
Very glad with it. Use powersaving mode nearly all the tine and it still doesnt struggle to run anything. That 3Gb of ram is great too. Pen is usefull for photo editing and the odd quick note. When pc gets upgraded itll be a good size for remote desktop use too. Emulators run great, office apps so far are decent and the freedom of android is just… bliss.
Nexus 4 - Sensible price (compared to some phones), does everything I want and I like the stock Android experience.
nexus5
great hardware.
always been a bit “meh” about android, and unhappy that they took away Op Apps.
Samsung Galaxy S3. Recently re-rooted after Samsung upgrading phone to Android 4.3. Put CWM on it a few days ago, but not tried any custom ROMs yet, as I'm happy for now since removing all the Samsung bloat.
Nokia Lumia 520, love it.
Sill on my old Samsung Galaxy S2 with stock JB and still dead happy with it.
Sony Xperia T. James Bond uses it so it's got to be good right? I'm kinda pleased with it. The screen isn't very bright and colors aren't that accurate but it does what I need. Thinking of putting CM on it if Sony wait much longer for even the 4.3 update, nevermind the 4.4 one.
Moto G. Picked up the 8GB PAYG version from Tesco using the clubcard exchange but even at £100 it would have been a bargain.
Only two minor issues with it. Firstly, the camera is pretty poor; it's on a par with my previous budget phones but it's pretty ropey when you look closely. Secondly, it totally puts my tablet (Xoom) to shame in most apps, especially Chrome, so it means I'll probably end up having to buy a new tablet too!
Lumia 720 - very good and easy to use
I actually took a risk the other day and decided to but one of the new BlackBerry 10s - The Q5. Have to say I am extremely impressed with the OS and support provided by the community (user designed SnapChat which is awesome). I've owned two other BBs from a few years back which were horrible when things like the S3 and iPhone4 were around but, I must say that if BB can turn their brand image around and back into their favor then they're on to a winner. Having said this I do believe it may be too late for BB even with their new awesome phones - the last few gens just killed the company off.
Got my Galaxy S2 twelve months ago on a great contract offer. Does absolutely everything I need, and the camera is pretty good too. Still on ICS 4.0.4 though as it's on nasty Orange firmware and they disable the ‘Check for updates’ option. May manually update it in the future instead.
HTC ONE+ my first decent smartphone and I am very happy with it in all respects
I got the moto G as a gift from my partner, absolutely incredible phone, stunning value for money.
Moto G…. paid just £12.04 of real money for the 16gb due to the voucher deal from Tesco's. Removed the tesco rom for the generic stock rom and have no interest in a custom rom at the moment… unlike my last phone the orange san francisco, yes I know but I only update when needed.
Nokia Lumia 1020, I bought it in the States as I was there when it launched, should have waited for the UK launch as Nokia don't offer international warranty, which I was told at the time but was too impatient to consider listening to reason.
Some Samsung Galaxy Ace piece of crap running 2.3 android full of bloatware. I despise it but I'm not willing to spend enough for a really good phone since they start knocking on laptop prices for my wants.
….
You make your calls on it. You send texts. You use it to synchronise your calendar. It holds your photos. Your music. Your games. It's with you on the bus. It's with you in bed. It keeps you company when you're on the loo. It's your sat nav. Your library. Your encyclopedia. It's for the colourful, it's a life companion, and nothing else comes close.
We all like to think we could live without it and ‘switch off,’ but let's face it, your smartphone has become an extension of your very being.
Yes, I make calls on it. On occasion.
Texts? Nope. Synchronise calendar? Not if that means giving Google or an app-maker my personal data. Photo's? Like hell. That's why I have a decent camera. Or several. Music? Nope, MP3 player. SatNav? Nope, because it can give away location data, so I use a standalone SatNav. Games, on a phone screen? Not for me. No way. Not interested. Library? Hell, no. Encyclopaedia? Nope, Britannica on CD, and onkine access from PC.
Extension of my very being? Ho, ho, hah, hah, hah. Nope.
Could I live without it? Yes, easily. BUT, provided it's only on when it suits me, and a very select group have the number, then it's utility outweighs the nuisance factor. Just. But I could easily be tipped over into binning it altogether, if the nuisance factor were to increase much, and rarely would I miss it.
See, thing is, I don't want to be at the beck and call of the flipping thing all the time. I don't want to be contactable by phone other than by a select group, and by mobile phone by an even smaller group.
So what phone? Couldn't tell you without looking, other than to say it was £5 in Asda about 6 or 7 years ago, and by “advanced features” it means it hold a few dozen contacts in memory. About 8 are used. And typically, it gets turned on about once a month. Which is more than the wife uses hers.
Smartphone? Not until or unless I am confident it's not a drain to pour my personal information down, into the hands of corporate marketing departments. Until then, I just won't use one. Which, I rather expect, means never.
BlackBerry Curve 9320. I also have an iPod Touch for multimedia/gaming purposes.
Sony Xperia T
Love it, got it April last year and no issues whatsoever, waiting to see if they update the software on it is the only bad thing, it does what it is supposed to though.
Lately I have found the battery isn't holding its charge as well as it could even after turning off and charging overnight, unfortunately to get the battery replaced it would have to go into a repair center with it being a sealed unit, think I will let it run down completely and then turn off and charge overnight to see if it rectifies it.
Other than that its a great phone, nice size and does what I need it to whether in the house or out and about
Lg/Google Nexus 5. (Tasty KitKat goodness)
Much better than the Samsung S2 or S3 I had before.
Google Nexus 5. I love it :D

One advantage of my village-idiot(*) phone over a smartphone is that I charge it about once a month, whether it needs it or not …. and it often doesn't. Of course, that MIGHT be a function of whether it's actually been …. erm …. turned on that month, or not. :embarrassed:
(*) Before anyone says it, the village-idiot refers to the phone, not it's owner.
Nokia 1020, got it for the camera, which now supports RAW DNG format…. Amazing camera phone.
Since hte last update the batterylife is now rather good too. Got 3 days out of it, with moderate whatsapp use and a few phone calls.
Samsung Galaxy 4.
I just LOVE the fact that not one person who answered this poll uses an Apple!!
Says a lot about the caliber of visitor to this site and their level of intelligence - certainly from a tech savy perspective!!
Samsung Galaxy S3. A nice step up from an S1.
Quite looking forward to Samsung releasing 4.4 on the device which should make it feel far more responsive, if the difference 4.4 made to my S1 (with a custom rom) is anything to go by.

Samsung Galaxy 4.

I bet many of the people that have posted have had at least one iPhone in the past but the question was for current devices, I've had two iPhones, my first was awesome (3g) but when I went from that to the iPhone 4 I was seriously disappointed with it being just another iPhone, I felt Apple hadn't done enough to make the then new iPhone 4 feel like a newer phone than the previous iPhone 3g/3gs and so will most likely never return to iPhone or the nightmare iTunes (Windows killer) companion software.
The LG-P970 Optimus Black, it will have it's second “birthday” on April 17th, I chose it since it was the most well-rounded phone in it's time(Single Core 1 GHz, 512MB RAM, 5MP with Flash). Dual Core phones were still VERY rare and now I do regret not choosing one. Although I would still love everything else about my phone today(specially the super bright NOVA display), the processor is very outdated and obsolete(because TI has abandoned it). I could barely run any 3D game and CyanogenMod has ceased support for it. I could only bet that on my graduation this March, I could get a new one :D
Pardon the essay :P
LG Nexus 5 it is one of the best phones I used. I had an iPhone 4 before this so it was a step up
HTC One. Best phone going. Love it.
LG Nexus 5. I am very pleased with it.
Galaxy S4
Pretty good so far, has the odd hissy fit about unstable wi-fi every so often since the last update, but hopefully Kit Kat will be here soon, I considered the HTC One but couldn't do with no removable battery and SD card slot, plus I can go 2 days on a charge. There's a few apps and some physical accessories for the iPhone that I like but can't have on Android, but I drop my phone, often, so couldn't have an iPhone even if I wanted one ;) Android is getting pretty good with apps now, I have dedicated sound logging app I use for my work which is great as I can note-up takes on my phone and email a PDF report to the Producer while still on the job, a major timesaver and pretty slick.
LG G2 LS980 custom rom and custom kernel , OpTimuS_DE v1.6 , fast like NOS :)
Galaxy Note 3. Massive phone but I would say on the right side of massive, any bigger and I'd struggle to fit it into my pockets. Great battery life which was one of the main reasons for getting it. Stylus (or the S-Pen as Samsung likes to call it) is awesome, feels great and writes well. Overall a quality phone a bit let down by Touchwiz software, just download Nova Launcher and you'll be fine.
Sony Xperia M - Currently getting anoyed at sony on the wait period for the upgrade to to the next Andriod version….
Percy1983
Nokia Lumia 520, love it.
Same here, easiest smartphone I have ever met.
Nexus 5 - just replaced my 2 year old Note 1 which was a great device but getting a bit fragile. Haven't had the nexus 5 long enough to form an opinion but seems super quick compared to the old note and I actually using Google ‘now’ now.
Got a Motorola Defy+ it's real durable but slow as hell
iPhone 5s, had a 5, 4s and 4 got this one as a free upgrade into my two year contract but when it ends in jan2015 will prob wait a bit and get a Sammy s6 unless apple change the game again as I think android is getting a lot better
Motorola Moto-G. Bought it sim free from phones 4u. Brilliant phone for the money. Only weakness is the camera in low light…
Bought a Moto G 16gb yesterday, I love it so far :-) before that, I had an HTC Desire for three years until it just died as I went to browse the internet. This site actually…
Lenovo A690 :(
But it does the job!
Right now, iphone 5S, but my tech lust can't stop and I might change when the new ones (S5, HTC 2 etc.) Come out. So bad for my wallet
Lumia 820. Satisfies all my needs
I posted my phone, but failed to address the questions about why and what I think about it.
Nokia 6120c, bought over 6 years ago. I've used other phones during these 6 years, the last one was a Motorola DEFY. I decide that I'm more comfortable with a smaller phone with a longer battery life.
I don't use a phone much, just need to have it in case someone wants to get in touch with me, or the other way round. I sit by a PC most of the day, so don't really need a smartphone, and for the mobile aspects I have a Nexus 7.
Note 2. Very happy with it, especially the battery life. I can just about get 3 days out of it.
I have an Xperia Mini Pro (Sk17i), but I want to change it soon.
Nexus 5 - Cos it's pure Android and fast & cheap
HTC One GPE - Cos it's a premium device and doesn't have any Sense crap on it. :)
Still use my Nexus 5 and LG Optimus G from time to time as they're a great size and feel good in the hand.
LGE Nexus 5 as my personal phone on sim only - cheap, fast and pure android.
iPhone 5S as my work phone - nice phone, but having used along with the above, the screen just feels too small and the restrictive iTunes drives me insane.
Xiaomi Mi2s. Snapdradon 600, 2GB RAM with a 720p 4.3“ screen and cost me about £230. Last year it was pretty much the only decent spec 4.3” phone available.
Nokia 2630 - 66g weight. Beat that suckers :)
Currently using a Nexus 4, from when they were selling them off before the Nexus 5 release. Can't see me changing to a new model in a hurry, as I'm not spending any more if I can possibly avoid it.
In the old days, when I had a phone-included contract, I was on more of a predictable upgrade cycle, but now that I've switched to a SIM-only deal, the only thing that's likely to make me upgrade is if it breaks. Or I can get a 4G contract for the same price as my current 3G package.
iPhone 4S. Yes I'm happy, does everything I need for now but the battery is starting to show its age a little and it noms through it with prolonged use.
Lumia 1020. Love it. Burned my iphone.
Butuz
Flibb
Note 2. Very happy with it, especially the battery life.
+1 for Note 2
Just got a Lumia 920 for 200 quid. My first proper smartphone and I love it. It was randomly freezing but I removed Skype (which I never use anyway) and it has been plain sailing since … only had it a few weeks but highly recommend it!
Have just bought a LG Maximo L5 (E610), brand new, unlocked… It works fine :)
LG G2, and when I get the screen fixed, I will love and cherish it and promise not to break it - again
Been rocking a nexus since the nexus 4, currently got the nexus 5 and I would say hands down it is my favourite phone, its extremely snappy and battery life is tolerable and it does everything I need it to do :). Love the feel in the hand and the sleek design , people seemed to give it a negative that nothing stands out but for me that's a good thing as the whole idea is that the screen if the focus point :).
Only niggle is the power button rattles a tad (really tiny niggle!). What I would to see from the next iteration is an even smaller width bringing it thinner than the n4 , stereo speakers like the HTC one and a bigger battery like the g2. Be perfect after that :).
Huwaei Y300 with an Ovivo sim.
Phone cost: £75
Running cost: £0
just bought a second hand htc desire x, so far it's looking great
I've got a Nokia 808 PureView with a Mugen Power 3000mAh battery + cover that protects the protruding camera and gives me 8 days battery life, 5 days if I use maps a lot.
Had the phone for a year now and will probably use it until it dies.
HTC one X GSM (Tegra 3)
Will be going for a Nexus 5 in April with contract renewal.
Galaxy Note 3. It's awesome, plus I have big hands so it makes sense :)
Nexus 4, will upgrade in around another 12months time. I will be sticking to android.
HTC One (silver). Best phone I ever had.
Nexus 5, phenomenal handset. Rapid performance, great price and no bloat ware!
Nexus 5, best phone I've ever had.
Galaxy Note 2, bought to replace an old phone and a tablet in one. TBH havent used the household laptop or tablet much in the last 2 years since getting the phone.
Sim free on a pay as you go contract.
Use it as a phone, sat nav, browser, play all my music from it and sync it to the car to play music too….oh and a camera etc.
I've only ever had three mobiles the first one was an old Sendo thing that spent more time being fixed than being used, it was replaced with -
Personal phone - My Motorola V620 (eleven years old in November), makes calls, sends texts and lasts an easy week on it's equally old original battery.
Everything else - A second hand Motorola Atrix, makes calls, sends texts, takes photo's and video (mainly for work), browses the internet when hooked up to wi-fi, manage to get a week out of the battery.
Both on pay as you go. Both do everything that I need or want out of a mobile (and then some).
Using an old orange san francisco that I picked up for £25. Great screen and a nice compact form factor but inevitably it is falling further behind the curve for software now (even with CyanogenMod) and I'll eventually be forced to upgrade.
On PAYGO and moving to Three's 321 plan when I've used up my current balance - then I'll get mobile data which will make the satnav a bit more usable (I currently have to remember to pre-load google map data before leaving home!).
Galaxy S2 which I ‘borrowed’ off my gf when she got an S4. Updated with Cyanogenmod 10.
iPhone 5 for my personal phone and a Blackberry 9790 for my business phone.
The company is switching to iPhones but they'll have to pull the BB from my cold, dead hands. I don't want an iPhone for work! I want a phone I can actually type emails on and I loathe doing that on the iPhone.
Blackberry 9900,I purchased it second hand and like it a lot for its clear audio,Ive a 20% hearing loss and this phone is the first Ive had since my Motorola 8500 in 1987 that Ive been able hear clearly without struggling
LG Nexus 4. Love it, but getting itchy feet again to get the Nexus 5. Might see what the predictions are for the 6 (5.1?) then decide. Battery life's getting a bit weak but other than that I really like it. Haven't been limited by only having 16Gb, but then I don't carry much music/video around, my 7 is for that. Plus sounds quality on the Google Play Music is a bit flat. Installing MX Player seemed to fix that though…
HTC One X
I've chosen this one because it wasn't expensive and delivers really good performance in games and apps. One thing I don't like about it - is camera though I don't use it very often.
Xperia GO, don't update it to newer system versions.
Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE (4G). Since I ditched the horrible Samsung ROM and switched to Cyanogenmod it's been fine :)
