I eagerly await the Linux back-lash…. but remember, direct it at James, not me this time!
I'm ready. I've created a wall of old Windows boxes round my house as ballast.
I'm loving the Linux bashing, and I say that as somebody with a Linux laptop and a Linux Media Centre (neither of which are dual boot with Windows).
However, for actually getting some work done… Windows XP X64 tbh.
getting what work done, specifically?
i haven't used windows for actual work (programming, word processing, video eding, blah blah blah) for *years*
but it's the best option for games right now

cunning - i don't need to actually take down the defenses, they'll come crashing down by themselves!

Work in the sense that when I've finished working I can fire up the CnC 3 demo without having to reboot or move seats :P
Also, when Adobe write a decent version of Flash Player for Linux… I'll be happier.
Still, you should be happy that 66% of my computers run Linux.

I can get that corsair thing to fail…

This would be so much more difficult with Linux. For a start, Linux doesn't so often come in a box. I know what you mean about Linux not crashing, though - it's hard to make an OS crash when you're not running anything particularly stressful or important on it.
good vid sorry to see the sofas go. any chance of it continuing on but about new things coming out soon in the world?
btw from looks of things james wouldnt have met a women ever anyway nevermind linux :P
and thx again for shoutout and i hope you enjoy my comments as much as i love having them read out :P
Not sure my wife would agree with you Cozwin. Or her sister.

so by “important” we're talking about games, right? directing you back to top500 as an example of both stressful and important systems would be tiresome

Oh, how easily you Linux types fall into my evil traps…
Can we just have a weekly feature of 2 blokes on a sofa bashing linux? Guaranteed ratings winner :P
Yeah. Might give that a try.

heh, heh ….somewhat understandable i ‘spose, but seems you guys think we’ve actually already

so, as the actress said to the Bishop:
“wait for it…”
cheers,

dis·a·vow (dĭs'ə-vou')
tr.v. dis·a·vowed, dis·a·vow·ing, dis·a·vows
To disclaim knowledge of, responsibility for, or association with.
[Middle English disavowen, from Old French desavouer : des-, dis- + avouer, to avow; see avow.]
dis'a·vow'a·ble adj., dis'a·vow'al n.
That's virtually your middle name, isn't it?
btw saying nano will be huge is a oxymoron :P
Are you calling Nick a moron?
Cozwin
btw saying nano will be huge is a oxymoron :P
Ok, how about ‘Nanotechnology will be massive’, is that ok?
As soon as you started talking about nano tech I knew u were going to say that, seen it quoted on the forums somewhere…
Aye, Josh had it as his sig for a while… I like to work in little ‘homages’ to my friends on the forum :)
So it's not plagiarism at all then?
Another good video :)
I reckon Nick's like Hexus's very own Clarkson. Sometimes loud and opinionated but that's why people love him.
James… Sorry to say this reminds me of Mr James May with his chilled replies and discussions.
All you need is a short, hyper-active fella and it's like Top Gear for computers ;)
The kind of dynamic we were looking for. I reckon Mr Dutton would do as the other member of the trio. What say you, Dutters?
I reckon PD on the sofa would be good… if brief…
Funny - his wife has said the same.

c'mon, that looks neat!
So neat I tried installing Ubuntu 6.10 onto my HTPC tonight for a bit of a play in preparation for when the download actually returns (there's just a rather slow torrent atm).
However, Ubuntu won't even get through the pre-install parts without reducing my monitor (the 24“ Dell listed left) to a steaming pile of ”out of range" messages through VGA.
Shame, as it looked as if I found a motivation to move to Linux, needing to find a major reason to teach myself a new system. It'll have to wait for now. :(
Hey Gav, how much do you earn an hour, roughly?
I only ask as I want to prove a minor point, so just give me a ball park figure if you would?
Cheers!

do you buy off-the-shelf computers from dell or pc world?
really, i find the software monoculture on hexus more than a little bizzare. a community that is happy to build a computer from the basic components, tweaking and tinkering away to get the best result, swapping things in & out for best effect, then mocks anyone who doesn't buy the software equivalent of a packard bell desktop.
where's the logic?

Not as much as you might think, and I don't get an hourly rate, just an annual flat salary. Working in education, I don't get paid for holidays either.
and just when you thought linux wasn't suitable for everyone …
http://ubuntustudio.org/So… they're launching an audio manipulation system like ableton for the masses probably free of charge.
Now all the music editting folks would love this as this would save them about 300 pounds on software costs alone :)

for some of us, linux isn't about cost (red hat enterprise costs a fortune, and i have two paid windows licenses on this home desktop machine)
it's about being better. not neccessarily better for *everything* (e.g. choice of games), but being better for things that matter on an individual basis. t'is one of the reasons top500.org is so filled with linux systems - why build a windows cluster with 1024 processors when a linux cluster with 512 performs just as well, and has more software available?
I'll be installing unbuntustudio when it's released as it's free and looks to be on par with ableton so I can mix my mp3's and create some funky mix sessions :)
If it's more stable and faster than ableton then it's a win-win situation all round.

 I think James adds great comedy value. Just looking at him makes me laugh  I like the pairing. Mr Dutton would make up the perfect trio, although I reckon Rys should also get in some of these videos!
James May's the best, so I'd consider that a major compliment :P
I do like Nick's style though. The first couple of minutes of the ‘Unplugged and Unleashed!’ show was just perfection.
