I have no logical use for such a vast amount of pixels, yet somehow I couldn't stop myself entering ;)

I suppose if I win I'l have to upgrade my gaming rig to kaveri for hybrid crossfire shenanigans!

Thanks hexus :)

Entered! Not sure if I'd prefer 27“ 1440p or 29” ultrawide 1080p though.

Would be sweet on my desk. Thank you hexus and partners for another great prize.
Posted by M_Taylor40 - Fri 15 Nov 2013 18:11

Would make gaming, work and even managing my home server so much easier with that FOV!

I'd still like to have 3 of these in surround, but I am just being greedy

Have to say that I never consider Philips when looking at monitors but this little beauty has changed my concepts of them. Nice one Philips & Hexus for this Comp.

Who needs 3 monitors when you have one of these

Cheers Hexus

Entered, this would make my photo editing soooo much easier, having to wear glasses to use my existing screen :(
Posted by Biscuit - Sat 16 Nov 2013 10:44
i have an ultrawide dell that was on sale recently at Aria for £320ish. for gaming and films that retain their uber-wide cinema ratio it is awesome!
Edit - maths fail
Once i have a bit more space i think i will probably get a higher resolution 16:9/16:10 display for working
Posted by PeteSmith - Sat 16 Nov 2013 15:31
It's about time i replaced my CRT, fingers crossed.
Posted by pvee - Sat 16 Nov 2013 17:17
would love to join but… Philippines is not included. nice monitor though! would love to try a higher resolution with my rig. :D good one Philips!

Jesus, amazing opportunity. Thanks hexus!

This is exactly not the monitor I'm looking for. Huge and only 1080 pixels high. I have no idea what's the use case for this.
Posted by Queelis - Sun 17 Nov 2013 08:04
This would be an excellent work horse. Possibilities are endless!

Obviously I wouldn't turn down the ultrawide (*cough*), but 1440p is probably better ultimately. Even for 1920 widths, I prefer that little extra depth of a 1920x1200 display for Photoshop, music production and so on, so I'd like 1440p for the extra width and depth. On the other hand, I'd need a better graphics card than the one I have in order to indulge in gaming at 1440p.

Right now a lot of people complain that some of their games don't support the ultrawide resolution, even the big titles like Assassins Creed 4, so they have to deal with large areas of dead screen around a 1920x1080 play area.

It's really good if you use a lot of apps with second windows, or you'd like your browser alongside your work. When I'm doing music, it's nice to have the arrangement window open with the mixer window, but right now that only really works on ultra-high resolution screens or two-monitor set-ups. Using a second monitor isn't great for producers anyway, since fitting two display monitors in the space between your monitor speakers is a bit of a problem for sound. Also for digital art, I could have a duplicate Photoshop window at a close zoom alongside the zoomed out one, and work in detail while keeping an eye on the whole scene at the same time. I'd also like to avoid two screens for a lower energy bill.

I am still on a 7 and a half year old 20" 1680X1050 Philips 200W6CS monitor ATM. It would be nice to win a new monitor!

If only it were an inch bigger and 1600 pixels deep. When will we ever get monitors like that? :-(

This would really help with writing up my thesis and writing C++ code. A bit of gaming wouldn't hurt either though

I'm not even sure my card will output at that resolution - might need an upgrade just to use it, but so much extra space for CAD

Or like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CROSSOVER-30Q5-Pro-30-LG-IPS-Q5-2560-1600-WQHD-16-10-PC-Monitor-/261131991698, which I like, especially as they pivot, allowing two portrait sidekicks to a central landscape. Alas, I'm already stocked up with 24“ monitors and even these import prices are too high to justify upgrading.

Actually I was being ironic in my earlier post. 30” 2560x1600 has been around for ages but here we have innovation! Just as with 1920x1200, they've taken a fine width and height and chopped pixels off the vertical so that all those people who love scrolling can do even more of it. However, with these 29“ers they've taken off a generous 520 pixels instead of the paltry 80 that they took off the 24” monitors. Woohoo! Progress is a marvelous thing. ;o)

I would say don't hold your breath too long, I've been entering Hexus competitions for as long as Hexus has been holding them and I've yet to win a thing. The site generates a *lot* of traffic.
