Not 1 mention of Rome 2: Total War on the PCWorld page, WTF lol

Can't wait. Console gamers can eat dirt. Console is dead, the only reason one is better than the other is which one you think sounds cooler. The consoles have the same hardware, same (almost) features, look similar, perform similar. PC FTW!

Not wanting to put words in anyone's mouth, but why do people on hardware sites feel the need to register just to boast about how they are elite because they're able to afford (and this bit is pure speculation) an Intel i7 and guaranteed-to-clock-like-crazy motherboard, and a pair of expensive Nvidia GPUs?

Sorry, but that's not what I call a hardware enthusiast. To me a hardware enthusiast takes cheap parts (like a Core2 Celeron for instance) and clocks them until they almost expires.

Besides, GFLOPS is hardly the only criteria and I expect the new consoles (where games are coded a lot closer to the hardware) to punch a fair bit above their raw GFLOPS weight. In the meantime; yes, a system with the $1000 Titan is quicker than the PS4, big surprise.

Yes, I guess you're right. And here I am stuck with my old Pentium E5300 (released Nov 2008), while others are on the latest and greatest CPUs…

Wait, you're on i7-920 (released Nov 2008). Maybe we had better keep quiet in case the real enthusiast get our accounts locked :)

Obviously they're talking up PC gaming, since they've been completely excluded from this little next-gen race. But if they don't catch themselves on with their prices they're going to end up losing out there, as well.

Well as a PC gamer its all good news. A new ‘minimal’ bar for game quality (graphics not gameplay :P), same architecture so games will either be developed on PC and ported to console or at least when they are ported to PC it won't be a massive job…. and the best thing of all… games like Planetside 2 and other huge MMO's are coming to console meaning I can laugh and shoot them in the face as they are using their controls vs our mice (Quake 2 on dreamcast days!!!!!!!) YEY! :D

In truth architecture doesn't really make a significant difference thanks to compiled languages, only the Cell CPU of the PS3 threw a spanner in the works there with those SPEs, and most developers just ignored those SPEs and treated the PS3 like any other PowerPC machine. The main hurdle with engine porting is, and always has been, the host runtime environment, and the APIs it supports, and Microsoft is the only real obstacle to vendor neutral software, as usual.

I wish they'd talk about their 320.18 driver instead.

I'm trying to forget it ever happened.

I thought Tom Clancy's The Division wasn't coming to PC. Which I was mortified by, but it's on the list. Is there something PCGamesN know that hasn't been announced yet?

It's more of a “very likely” situation, as basically every other triple-A Ubisoft game has also been available on PC.

Personally I think a hardware enthusiast is someone that is enthusiastic about changes in achitecture, performance and design of hardware regardless of it's age or whether they own it or not.

Also, I am an avid PC game simply because the PC can offer more versatility with online play and mods. The graphics are indeed fantastic compared to consoles but I'd rather enjoy playing than enjoy watching. Win win if a game can achieve both those things though!

Consoles have always had more support since the casual gaming market is alot bigger than the core gaming market, and consoles are just more accessible for it. Add on to that the fact a console has a long hardware shelf life which makes it easier to create games engines for, allowing the developers to get the very best from the hardware.

Sadly, the PC gaming market just isnt as strong and can't compete. However I do believe with the new consoles being on the same architecture as each other and on a level with mid-range PC's.. we should see the PC game market increase massively as gamers can use the same machine for years, only upgrading when desireable rather than by requirement.

I think nvidia run a risk of having their next gen hardware overlooked now all consoles are PC based and OpenCL develops. I hope nvidia have a rethink about getting behind OpenCL and don't get left behind.

I am in agreement with this definition. Perhaps I would also draw a link in time invested in related activities, be it reading up the latest news and actually performing the mods/overclocks etc.

ooh.. the old PC vs Console battle bought out and dusted off again ;)

I think nVidia have been clever in many ways in recent years. No one can get everything right, but they've hit a lot of high's and not fallen over too many times.

Do I have an nVidia card? I've got one as a spare… my two main cards are AMD.. but that's more luck on what I could get at the time, than direct choice. But other PC's I've built/modded/upgraded have their fair share of nvidia.

Consoles need PC's and PC's need consoles…

because without both pushing, we'd not have gone so far and so fast.

Look at the moment people realised that a PS3 could run FOLDING@HOME like an olympian god!! That putt he cat amongst the pigeons. OK, doesn't help gaming but it DOES help focus the graphics card makers minds on GPU power for stuff.

Loads of people had/have older Geforce card to run Phys X.

My Dad uses CUDA for film rendering.. it's fast.

If the PC as a gaming machine was to have died when people were getting angry with it for not being stable… when consoles were rock solid… then the world would be an empty shell. Then X-box rings lit up, and PS3's fell over.. and PC's got solid on many games. Win7 helped .. but the principle is that they bounced off each others wins and losses.

I have a PS3.. it is used 4 times per year for a quiick blast on Gran Turismo.. other than that.. it's a Media player for a projector.

I have 5 PC's… 3 are gaming grade. 2 get used for it.

I have a PS2.. it's STILL used for gaming.

I have a Wii… it gets used a bit for gaming but mainly for iPlayer.

GO figure….. they all need each other and we all need then to keep fighting :)

Im a PC gamr but I still like consoles every now and again, the Titan is 2.5x better with a price twice that of the console, and thats just the graphics card. Not everyone can afford a high end PC

But the best thing about is a new console gen is that the ports will look a fair bit better and there is loads of new games
Posted by MrBozack - Sat 15 Jun 2013 12:23
Well half of those titles are going to be released on the Wii U too! I bet the graphics will be pretty much the same. Wii U is already available and doesn't cost half a thousand pound.

Your £500 TV pass-through fantasy baseball box will have to do better, m$!

You don't need a Titan.the 780 is cheaper ands just AZ powerful. A 580 type card is enough to play games at 1080p.
