FAO David - need your input here.

Right. As at the time it was closed, the Bar members were :-

Clingy
J4MES
Jiff Lemon
kez
Knoxville
Mrs Dak
Oakey
Russ
scottyman
Skii
steve threlfall
THCi
Theo
TiG
Tomo
Trash Man
Tumble
Trig
Dak

I've extracted the list of proposed members from the last thread, and it is :-

Clingy
Jiff Lemon
Kez
Knox
Mrs Dak
Steve Threlfell
Skii
TiG
Tumble
Trig
Vaul
Dak

That means :-

1) Vaul has been added

2) The following have been removed :-

Theo
Trashman
Tomo
THCi
Russ
J4MES
Oakey
scottyman

David - my proposed method, and a question for you.

Method.

We currently have an inactive forum (the Bar) with a load of posts in it. Is there any reason why I should not delete the existing contents and rename the Bar to whatever the new forum is going to be called?

That means I can simply

1) Rename The Bar
2) Remove those members not getting access to the new forum from “The Bar” usergroup
3) Add new members to that Usergroup (i.e. Vaul)

The alternative is to set up a new forum and New Usergroup. That seems like the hard way UNLESS you want to keep the contents of the old Bar for some reason. Do you?

Damn it.. beat me to it!
Posted by Nick - Tue 11 May 2004 20:08
Can I suggest that rather than delete all the posts in there, just remove any that refer to other non bar/fight club members?… and then we pile in with a zero tolerance policy on discussing other members

and remind people that the bar/fight club is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT to EVER be talked about

The trouble with that is :-

a) someone's got to go through all the posts/threads looking for that (and it ain't gonna be me :D)
b) we'll have posts in the new forum from people that no longer have access
Posted by Saracen - Tue 11 May 2004 21:03
Another thing I'd suggest is that we decide now what can and cannot be done in this forum, and send all new members a mail/PM BEFORE granting them access requiring them to acknowledge that they have read and understood, and will abide by, these rules. Failure to do so will result in access to the new forum being removed immediately (on first breach).

Rule 1) - No, and we mean NO discussing/bitching about other members

If they don't acknowledge and accept rules, they don't get access.

Shorty - I presume it was you that set up the UserGroup auto-promotion rules. I've now been through all the Bar members and reassigned them to the correct user group (accordingto post count, etc) and added Bar Membership as a secondary USer Group.

This should fit in much better with the overall membership scheme.

There are now Zero member with Bar Member as their Primary User Group and Id suggest it stays that way from now on.

Yes, that was me. It is a much more organised way of handling multiple user groups IMO :)

Sounds good - please add James - he is a personal freind of mine
Posted by Nick - Tue 11 May 2004 22:24
Sara, I can go through and delete threads/posts by non Bar members.. I don't mind… BUT… should that non-member then become a member again, they're gonna wonder where all their posts went… so maybe it is better to start with a clean sheet.

If so, can I ask a favour… can someone link me to the thread about my hospitalization? I only ask cos I've gotten so far and don't want to have to type it all out again to finish what has become an epic rivalling the likes of War and Peace.

Can this be opened ASAP

Absolutely agree. Totally 100%. It just wasn't available as an option when I set up the last lot :)

James now added to Bar member group.

Can action it as soon as I get the answer to the question I asked above (in my long post). i.e.

Can we dump the contents of the existing Bar completely (I'll try to dig your hospitalisation thread out first, Deck)?

Also, what was the final decision on name?

And, if we're gonna do what I suggested about making people confirm their acceptance of (and that they've read) the rules, we need to write the rules.

As soon as that is done, I'll finish off the implementation.

Do you mean this?

I've moved that thread to the Thread Dump so you can access it, and can then either move it to the new forum or copy/paste the bits you want.

If that isn't the one you mean, give me as much info as you can on the thread and I'll dig through the Bar for it (that one was page 5 :D).
Posted by Nick - Wed 12 May 2004 00:49
Thats the one Sara, cheers, I'll copy and paste my posts in, so as to remove any posts by non-existent members.
Posted by Saracen - Wed 12 May 2004 00:49
Caged
Name was “Fight Club”
The Bar now renamed to Fight Club, and a suitable (:D) description added.

Note - forum still inactive so will currently only be visible in Admin panel.

Dump all old threads to the thread dump me thinks :)

Rules - are fine

:D cheers guys…..superb

All posts from Bar/Fight Club now moved to Thread dump.

I have activated the Fight Club …. BUT …. at the moment, only Mods and Admins have access to it. This is while we decide if we're going to get an acknowledgement of the rules from members before we admit them.

Nice work Saracen, job well done :)
Posted by Shad - Wed 12 May 2004 15:02
Oh, also, as per the film I think the description/rules should read:

"The first rule of fight club is –
you do not talk about fight club. The
second rule of fight club is – you
do not talk about fight club."

:)

Amended to follow above. I KNEW someone would remind me of the wording without me having to Google it :D
Posted by Shad - Wed 12 May 2004 21:59
:D

Can I be picky though? It's just ‘Fight Club’, not ‘the Fight Club’ :) :P
Posted by DR - Wed 12 May 2004 22:48
We must be ready to go surely?
Posted by Saracen - Wed 12 May 2004 22:54
Very nearly.

Two outstanding issues - one you know about and I only got the answer two minutes ago. The other is whether we mail all prospective members BEFORE admitting them and get them to confirm they've read and acknowledge the rules. I had asked this a couple of times, but haven't seen an answer yet.

The first issue will take a few minutes to sort out and I'll do it shortly (after my TV prog has finished). The second will either take a while, or no time at all, depending on whether you want to do it that way or not.

I dont think we should mail them - they know what the game is - future people should be mailed/PM'd though - the ones we have selected are trusted.

Stop watching ER :P

Bleedin' cheek. Newsnight. I woz watching Newsnight.

:) Yeah right!

Vaul - he will be cool - ill talk to him
Posted by Saracen - Thu 13 May 2004 02:48
Sure, Vaul will be OK - he's good people.

And it was Newsnight. Interview with a couple of Americans over the torture pictures, etc, one of whom was Democratic ex-Presidential candidate Howard Dean, then discussion on immigration issues, and the immigrant component of Southall, where the ‘old’ immigrants (largely Asian, including the largest Sikh community outside India) are moving out, and ‘new’ immigrants, including the Somalians, are moving in. Also included comments from some highly successful ‘old’ immigrants about how they arrived with nothing and got little direct support, but worked their butts off and have now suceeded (inc the family that moved to Gerrard's Cross) while the ‘new’ immigrants get all sorts of benefits, so expect everything handed to them. This was reinforced by comments from one Somali woman who used to live in a “luxury house with gardens” in Somalia but had to flee, and was moaning because she and her kids were in a one-bed apartment, when she felt she ought to have been put up in “at least as good as she was in Somalia, maybe better”. (THAT did, I must admit, cause me to utter an expletive or two).

Anyway., like I said, NEWSNIGHT :D :D

Or …… need I go on??

:D
