tbh, I'd much rather have a convertible Win 8 tablet anyway. Something like the Slider with a Jaguar or ULV Trinity APU would really push the buttons for me :)

The S200E-CT158H (i3 version) is currently in stock in my local Tesco, doubt they have very many though.

Had a play on it while the guy was still unboxing it, very nice device and using Windows 8 does feel loads better/easier when combining it with a touchscreen.

Personally hanging on for the Surface Pro though!

Don't they realise that many people out there have fairly good systems for their requirements already and just upgraded to windows 8 instead of shelling out for new kit?

i used the beta version of this joke and personally i would simply not buy it its just like windows me and vista STUPID it belongs in a phone or one of those useless tablets.

I guess they are getting confused with the phone/tablet crowd who upgrade every 6 months or thereabouts just to keep up with Joneses'. Generally you upgrade a laptop every 2/3 years maybe, if at least you can look after the thing. I've had a cheap Acer laptop that's lasted 3 years and still going pretty strong and Windows 7 does the job perfectly.

I'm sure after Xmas there's going to be a poopstorm of sales and maybe then I'll look into buying a new laptop, depends how good the sales are. Obviously right now you will pay a premium cos it's still so new.

Your right Microsoft! Demand isn't very high for Windows 8…I wonder why? Maybe because Windows 7 was fine…..

I think the actual intended point is that it belongs on tablets with touch interfaces, that is what the majority of the general consumer market seems to want… hence why they buy iPads despite the limited functionality.

Microsoft don't design the OS to appease ranting geeks instead (not surprisingly) they design for the majority of the market - i.e. Joe Average.

All hardware manufacturers want to steer the market towards more regular upgrades, Microsoft as well a their fortune depends so heavily on that. Tech is becoming more commoditised, cheaper and thus more regularly upgraded.

True. Well if prices are good I wouldn't mind having a second laptop or more. As the article says it's just too expensive right now with ALL the other similar options and great prices like tablets and chromebooks which are a fair bit cheaper. I want one but not at that price

See, I don't get that - the Surface pro is basically an ultrabook - 4gb, pen digitizer, full windows 8 pro and an SSD in tablet form - and it's RIP time?

I can bin my laptop and ipad 3 and have one device that covers both use cases, without the compromises of a mobile OS - I want one. It's also about £560 quid in today's conversion rates, plus the inevitable upwards adjustment for VAT/not in USA etc it's still going to be a pretty decent price. I would say I see the lack of keyboard for the money as a downside but it's still not a dealbreaker for me.

I guess we have different use cases. It's also just going to be one of many Windows tablets in the coming year.

I'm pretty hopeful work will buy me one since it's compatible - chatting with a colleague here he's interested too (and he's an apple user - iMac/iPhone/iPad3) as he'll be able to use things like lightroom for his photography etc.

How many people out there have yet to upgrade to Windows 7, let alone 8? Every single work PC at my company is running XP, and I don't intend to change that any time soon!

I would rather not have it on laptops/desktops anyway. I am perfectly happy with Windows 7 and Mint.
