Not a chance. First off for Apple being an arse second for extorted cost.
Posted by Wozza63 - Fri 21 Sep 2012 16:49
definitely not, im not an iSheep, a 920 for me, although the specs for the PadFone 2 look pretty awesome so i will wait til that announcement and see although ASUS usually take a year to release stuff
Posted by leepen@scan - Fri 21 Sep 2012 16:49
I've a 4S, so really don't see the need until a 5S comes out. I'm not really missing out on any features other than a row of icons. TheRegister got it right with iOS6 though, more like iOS 5.5.
Posted by 3dcandy - Fri 21 Sep 2012 16:54
nope…2nd release of a little too late for me

As an iPhone 4 owner, my next phone will be an android.
Posted by brasco - Fri 21 Sep 2012 17:07
I've got a 3GS and and HD7, and I'm considering jumping both ships and going back to Android maybe the S4 in Jan. No doubt this is a great phone, but not so great that it's got my wallet itching to drop 530 quid on one :)
Posted by kasavien - Fri 21 Sep 2012 17:29
Not for me, will be getting a wp8 device next.
Posted by themw - Fri 21 Sep 2012 17:37
It's not revolutionary enough for me, I think Apple could take on more risk here…
Posted by ZaO - Fri 21 Sep 2012 17:46
No I'll buy a Samsung S3 just out of spite haha….
Posted by MilesPebody - Fri 21 Sep 2012 17:47
Nope, me neither. I have my trusty old (nearly 2 years now) HTC Trophy (windows 7.5 phone). I am thinking of upping to a windows 8 phone of some sort when I renew my contract.
Posted by Roobubba - Fri 21 Sep 2012 17:56
Not on your nelly. If I was offered one free I would sell it to one of the cretinous iSheep, or just see if it will blend for fun.

Their products hold absolutely NO attraction to me whatsoever.
Posted by Gitch28 - Fri 21 Sep 2012 17:56
Why would anyone on a tech site want an iPhone?
Posted by OilSheikh - Fri 21 Sep 2012 17:58
Went to Covent Garden store today , nipping out from work. Store opened at 8. I went at 11.
Queues were mahoosive! About 200 ppl!
And, when I reached the end of the line, the Apple guy told me we arent letting anyone else queue up for today. :censored:

I went just to sell off on eBay and make a tasty profit
Posted by Flewis - Fri 21 Sep 2012 18:11
I was planning on getting one when I bought my wife her 4s. With the uninspiring iphone release and latest advances in android phones I will most likely buying a Samsung.
Posted by saltyzip - Fri 21 Sep 2012 18:17
Nope
Posted by Slystuff - Fri 21 Sep 2012 18:17
I think I'm more than likely going to get a new android phone, with a good chance of that being the SGS3.
I've still got a couple of months left on my current contract so I'll be keeping an eye out for whichever has the best deal between now and then really.

I'll never, ever, buy another Apple product. Firstly because after owning two iPods I utterly hate the way they do things and could only keep using the last one because of Rockbox (the first one died). Secondly, their marketing, obvious planned obsolescence, and litigiousness make their products even less attractive to me.
Posted by The Hand - Fri 21 Sep 2012 18:55
I'm going to go for a WP8 device, so no iPhone for me! By the way, there are rumours going round that Samsung are launching the Galaxy S4 in February next year.. food for thought.
Posted by 3dcandy - Fri 21 Sep 2012 19:22
S4 *should* be on show in Feb next year with a release of March. Interesting to see that a large majority of reviews are saying that the iPhone 5 is probably at best the 3rd best handset at moment with some saying they prefer the 4S! That's a first for Apple…
Posted by Tyrion - Fri 21 Sep 2012 19:51
I don't think I'll never buy an iPhone. I just can't understand why should it be better than an android smartphone. The only reason for iPhone to be so “in” is that apple.
Posted by iworrall - Fri 21 Sep 2012 19:53
Contract has another year to run, so it'll either be an S4 or “Nexus Next” (rumours of one have been circulating for a while now).
Posted by Fergie1979 - Fri 21 Sep 2012 20:26
Received mine today but Vodafone sent the wrong SIM card so can't use it. Like the feel of it though.

Buy an iPhone5? Bwah ha ha ha ha ha… :wipes a tear from eye: Not a chance, over hyped, over priced and belonging to a company that makes 1984 look really quite reasonable.

Anyway my trusty old (nine year old) work horse of a Motorola V620 is still plodding along (and still lasts a week on its original battery) and I've just bought a spotless second hand Motorola Atrix for business purposes so I'm not going to be upgrading for a good while yet.
Posted by Obscurity - Fri 21 Sep 2012 21:33
No. Its a substandard design and the Galaxy S3 is both cheaper and better. Plus the fact I'd be locked into apples bullsh*terry, which I couldn't stand. Ill stick to android, its far better.
Posted by MrBozack - Fri 21 Sep 2012 22:55
If I was a Justin Bieber hipster, I would 100% buy one. As it stands; It's the HTC 8X for me… in green.
Posted by brasco - Sat 22 Sep 2012 01:24
Getting a bit tired of all the arrogant “isheep, hipster” comments, it doesn't help any discussion and they are good phones (shock horror!) they're just not for everyone.
Posted by Whiternoise - Sat 22 Sep 2012 04:51
Having played with a few, I was very tempted. They look nice, the interface is good, the App store is decent - all the major apps are iOS at any rate, 4G check, battery life is standard but fine, NFC I can live without. As for price, all phones are overpriced.

And then they ditched Google Maps.

It's a 920 or a Galaxy Nexus for me.

A company like Apple which is arrogant itself will mean people will come back with the arrogant users comments all day long…as you can see on this board the majority of people are against Apple more so than the product

Posted by JimmyBoy - Sat 22 Sep 2012 09:09
Tempted but the high price compared to the s3 is a big put off! If it was affordable on a 12 month contract I'd go for it, but it isn't so I'm not sure I want to make a two year commitment!
Posted by Englander - Sat 22 Sep 2012 09:12
Certainly not. I've owned a couple of iPod Touches (both broke) and I'm now on an iPhone 3GS (second hand) and when this dies on me I'll be switching away from the Apple brand entirely. Overpriced, planned obsolescence, unreliable hardware, anti-competitive monopolistic war mongerers.
Posted by Scainer - Sat 22 Sep 2012 11:38
They release the iPhone 4, which was essentially the 3s with a better camera but in a nicer package so imo a worthwhile update. They they con people and bring out the 4s that did little extra or better. Now they essentially bring out a wide screen version, and should be called the 4s(wide edition).

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice,….. Screw you apple!!!

Hi, I totally appreciate everyone has an opinion, I really don't like the way Apple does business, it's just the comments dripping with condescension aimed at people who own iPhones, as if they're idiots who know nothing about tech, it's just a little ignorant and boring :)
Posted by Tattysnuc - Sat 22 Sep 2012 14:15
Not had, nor ever will have an Apple device. My blackberry integrates beautifully with my works machines, and my laptop surfs and “internets” perfectly. Why pay for something that nearly does all that, and costs me more. I don;t get this phone “arms race” to have the latest and greatest.

Definitely becoming middle aged.
Posted by addz17 - Sat 22 Sep 2012 14:24
Ehh, a phone thats not compatible with all its predecessors accessories unless you spend £25 on a plastic adapter? Thats dumbed down technology made buy a very dislikable money grabbing company…. no thanks, blow it out your ass
Posted by 3dcandy - Sat 22 Sep 2012 18:58
a tech based board means people are going to argue against a company who seems to have lost it's way a little. They are not innovating half as much as they did back in the Steve days. He would also not have released ios maps in the state it was released…
As much as you argue against it Apple are seen as a bad company and many iPhone users regarded as using phones that restrict what they can do unless Apple wants you to do it….it used to be a great idea but appears to be losing it's way with many, especially people who are more technically minded. I know so so many people who have defected to SGS 3's because they are either fed up with Apple or see the iPhone 5 as another small incremental step rather than a leap

I hate the way every ad is done in a talking slow hypnotic sense like the Church of Scientology does in all their ads too.

If I won the lottery tonight I would buy a Galaxy 3 or Nokia 920. I want to give my money for innovation, not legal costs to sue all the competition.

What was the massive leap from SG2 to SG3, processor, screen, camera etc, hardly revolutionary. Nokia 900 to 920, processor, screen etc. Its not like they need to re-invent the wheel, its a smartphone. Apple invented smartphones. Most people so far have said, “screw apple I'm getting a Sg3 or Sg4 when it comes out” etc etc, who are the sheep now. Its a certainty that there is a serious cause for concern with the big companies and there litigious nature, but surely that's for the US government and Patent office to resolve. As for comments on the connector, remember, SCART, SCSI, IDE, E-IDE, you cant expect the same connecteor for ever. I note the Samsung Galaxy tab has a similar 30pin docking port…..

Seriously…look at the reviews bigsnake, the unbiased ones are all saying it's another evolutionary step. Some people are due a change, others will go for an iPhone 5 that's how it is…but on this board the majority seem to be saying no they don't fancy a new iPhone

So thats nearly every vital element of a smartphone, except you forgot android 4.0… which is a pretty big step.

What!? Apple didnt invent the smartphone. I have been using smartphones since the Motorola MPX200 in 2003!

bigsnake123
Most people so far have said, “screw apple I'm getting a Sg3 or Sg4 when it comes out” etc etc, who are the sheep now?
Im confused, are you saying people should stay loyal to apple even though their product is mostly pants?
Are you saying by changing their mind and going for somethhing else, that makes them sheep?
Personally if what you say is true and masses are swarming to alternatives then i would say it proves the previous statements about most iPhone fans being sheep are just plain false/
bigsnake123

Unfortunately yes, it is for them to resolve, however whats the harm in you making your position clear using your wallet?
bigsnake123

Video and computer interconnects are standard across brands and are changed/developed hand in hand with protocol and technology advancements. Most phone companies now use the Micro-USB connector because to do otherwise would instantly score you minus marks in reviews.
Apple has its own connector across all its devices and there is a vast array of devices which use it, how can you not see why people are annoyed?
At the same time, they did need to change it sooner or later as it was an oversized and awkward connector. Why they didnt go to the micro USB il never know.
The samsung tab connector is stupid though.

Well put, no chance of a reasoned rebuttal.
Posted by brasco - Sun 23 Sep 2012 01:09
It boils down to personal preference, they are all awesome smartphones, they do a massive amount of things really well. If people want to apply their pre-conditioned bias that's their choice. But I will state, again, buying an iPhone does NOT make you an “iSheep” it doesn't make you any less tech savvy and if people can't seem to see that without looking down on everyone then I feel sorry for them. Power to the consumer, buy what you want not what someone else tells you to buy. My next phone is probably the 920 but it might be the S4 if I can be arsed to wait :)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2207074/Internet-flooded-iPhone-5-owners-complaints-new-smartphones-arriving-scratched-straight-box.html?ICO=most_read_module

Many excited Apple customers stood in line for hours Friday to get their hands on the shiny new iPhone 5, only to discover nicks and scratches on the smartphones straight out of the box.

Dissatisfied buyers took to message boards dedicated to Apple products, complaining about slight yet pesky scuffs and scrapes near the antenna markers on the side of the device or close to the screen

But apple's product design is the bestest, everyone who buys one says so. Its not as if glass + glass was bat crap insaine, and whilst HTC/Nokia are going further in to the polycarbonate route which is stronger, hides scratches etc, anodized alluminum, which I thought was shoddy on my Glofiish back in 2007 is the technology of choice!

Yeah i saw that, it is a good move from apple but, as Animus said, they use the wrong materials in the first place.
The poly on my one x still appears to be scratch free a good 6 months into its life and i have no case/cover, its just free in my pocket the whole time. Not only that but i have dropped, thrown, fell onto and all sorts of stupid things with it, its seriously robust!
Few scratched on the ‘gorilla glass’ but you only see them in certain light if you look really hard.

iPhones are getting damaged by the machines that make them for christs sake. For £500+ you should expect a much higher standard of QC.

I see no reason to upgrade. My Iphone 4 does everything I need. If I do get a new phone I would be more likely to go to an android as the iphone is way to easy to break the back and front glass and have had to replace it twice now.

Overpriced hardware, why pay to be in with the icrowd when there are “other” smartphones?!
Posted by Lord Midas - Mon 24 Sep 2012 09:33
Will never own an Apple product. Though thinking about that, it almost makes me a sheep in the “not wanting Apple products” group. Though my reasons are to do with them being a spiteful company that trys to win success though sueing other companies. I mean, they win $1bn out of Samsung, but that wasn't enough so they want a further $700m. Utter corporate greed. The following words are censored :censored: to protect the innocent.

Anyway, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note. The is especially un-sheepish, as even normal phone users find it too big. Which to me was its main selling point. Applephone5 is still too small.
Posted by Saracen - Mon 24 Sep 2012 12:18
I have no current need, or particularly even a desire, for a smartphone much less an over-hyped and (IMHO) over-priced one.

So that'll be a “no”, then.
Posted by Tusk - Mon 24 Sep 2012 13:51
I have an Iphone 4 and to be honest I like it.The newer iphone 5 doesn't give me anything
to make me want to go that step forward and purchase it.Even IOS6 as an upgrade takes things away from my i4. I'm not happy about loosing certain things like other people, even tho there are work arounds. Weve been told that the new apple maps wont work on the i4 but have since found out that they do on a jail broken one so what's going on here.Am I being told little porkies through propaganda so that I am being forced to upgrade. Not sure. Not happy at all really.Looking at the note 2 soon. That looks fantastic.!!!
Posted by will101 - Mon 24 Sep 2012 18:57
I've just recently sold my trusty HTC Titan to prepare for my new phone purchase.

To be even handed and open minded I am borrowing an iPhone 4 and have bought a cheap Jelly Bean powered android tablet to see how the alternative OSs stack up in terms of usability and features.

If I'm honest I'm probably half decided on a Lumia 920 already but until they're available there's no rush… If I do go down this route though there's a devil of a decision to be made chosing the colour! Black with a cyan charge pad to match a Surface RT with blue touch keyboard/cover?
Posted by Stringent - Tue 25 Sep 2012 10:53
Its a possible. I have an iPhone 4S at the moment and have a few Apple products, so from an ecosystem point of view it makes sense, everything works together (most of the time). However the new Nokia Lumia 920 really caught my eye, and I figured I have nothing to loose in waiting to see if it does live up to the claims Nokia makes. Plus it will give time for the smoke to settle on the latest Apple release.
Posted by Sacred - Tue 25 Sep 2012 13:50
Yeah I'll be getting one, but probably not till February with my upgrade.

If t-mobile were going to allow free successive updates to Android devices I may be tempted by a S3 BUT the last time I had android they didnt and locked me out of any further updates (HTC Hero) soooo because of my crap experience with t-mobile I'm unsure if I would be going that route again.
Posted by KrisWragg - Wed 26 Sep 2012 15:32
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3 which in my opinion is way better spec wise than the iPhone 5. It's good they've finally increased the screen size, but having a 4.8" full 720p screen is just awesome… they should up their game!
