Lumia 920 for me. Bored with Android now and wouldn't touch an Iphone with a barge pole.
Posted by Agent - Fri 14 Sep 2012 16:42
Neither - there are plenty of other phones on the market that suit me better.
Posted by meandmymouth - Fri 14 Sep 2012 16:43
I'll stick with my HTC One X but if I had to decide it would be the lumia. iTunes alone is still keeping me a considerable distance from getting an iPhone.

Note 2. Love my note 1 and see no need to switch.
Posted by Tpyo - Fri 14 Sep 2012 16:51
Apologies in advance for all the brackets.

Honestly - I'm interested in the 920, dissappointed in the spec when it came out (mostly re: the camera not being the same PureView, colours (no cyan and gloss finish, nothing fatal) and will be delaying getting one to make sure it actually works, given that nobody has had a play with the software yet.

As a side note (and I know this won't affect many peoples decisions, even though it may affect their options)…
Microsoft appear to have escaped most of the patent wars (so far) through licensing agreements (that incidentally are making them a tidy chunk of cash e.g. for android sales too). Given how chummy Apple is with Samsung (and more recently - Motorola) - I'd expect to see some serious patent spats and attempts to ban the new iPhone (e.g. Samsung hold LTE/4G patents and as I understand it, these are not FRAND) in various regions in the very near future. Disabling this feature to escape any ban would only land them back in trouble for falsely advertizing the product (as 4G/LTE when it wasn't - a la 4S outside of North America). Given their history + ongoing bans /attempts to ban their own products, I can hardly see Samsung and co. letting Apple get away with this for long (granted on its track record, the US may just invalidate all non-apple patents to prevent banning of the iPhone but the ROW is probably a very different matter) or offering to remove the barrel that Apple will be over without suitable recompense (financial or revenge) for the issues Apple has caused for them previously.

Neither. Probably a Note II and a Surface Pro to replace my Sensation and Dell Laptop.

If I had to chose though a 920 every time, iOS is just horrible, it just feels like Duplo compared to the Lego of Android or WinPho. I'm tied into Google for services so I prefer Android.

lumia all the way :)
Posted by Wozza63 - Fri 14 Sep 2012 17:07
920 for me, I like android but its the fragmentation that is the problem, and the 920 is truly unique, even with the new design, people know its just an iPhone now and when every other person has one its not really a cool thing to have, but who in the world has owned a yellow phone? probably no one, and thats probably a very similar case with the red, although slightly more popular, but you will never see a red iPhone which just makes it boring YAAWN
Posted by edvinasm - Fri 14 Sep 2012 17:08
Although a bit boring Lumia 800 left the best impression I had in quite some time (measured in months since every month there is a new device out:). I think I will go fo 920 so. iPhone is dead to me. I am sick of Apple politics. Had Samsung Galaxy S2 and S3 and.. While very nice phone it's like any Linux based system - compatible with Windows but still a toy. I like Lumia for nokia Maps mostly. The app has no equals in that field. Windows Mobile 7.5 interface is quite smooth too. I am interested what Windows Mobile 8 will bring and hope Lumia 920 will have all future iterations of Windows Mobile 8 too.

Would have to say this is one of the first nokia phones that has grabbed my attention really other than the PureView cameras. Wouldn't mind trying out Windows OS and would definitely take it over the iPhone.
Posted by CK_1985 - Fri 14 Sep 2012 17:35
Lumia 920. I've had two iPhones in a row (3g, 4) and I'm a little bit bored of them. The 920 feels newer, more innovative and much more exciting - and I love the look of Windows phone 8. That said, if the pricing is wrong I may re-consider - I'm expecting a significant saving over the iPhone 5, but if that doesn't happen I'll look at other WP8 phones and possibly even Android… maybe!
Posted by Scribe - Fri 14 Sep 2012 17:51
I like the way Lumia is attempting to make a bold statement and praise Nokia for its RnD work, however, it and Windows Mobile aren't for me, neither is the iPhone 5 for way more obvious reasons.
Posted by george1979 - Fri 14 Sep 2012 18:34
Lumia all the way…

The Iphone 5 hasn't advanced the tech in it at all really, just stretched it and made it faster. Pointless IMO. Also Itunes would put put me off.

Not a fan of Android really… As others have said its too fragmented.

The Lumia is a great, and unique, looking phone with a modern, simple (but powerful) and unique OS.
I have the Lumia 800 (surprise, surprise) and it is a great piece of kit. Its not perfect - there are a few wee quirks with the OS I would like fixed but nothing major. Its solidly built too, I demonstrated this to a mate recently by hitting the screen off the edge of a table with some force and not even a scratch was left on it (he had recently broken his phone after dropping it from waist height so we were debating the subject).

If Nokia and MS keep churning out kit like this then I will be sticking with them for some time.

man, Nokia looks so sweet and sexy. Yep Nokia for me too!
Posted by jimbouk - Fri 14 Sep 2012 19:07
Choice between the two probably the Lumia. But both are far too expensive to consider, I'd rather get a new laptop!
Posted by Fraz - Fri 14 Sep 2012 19:23
Actually quite tempted by the Lumia. I'm due a new handset soon as well - currently have an HTC desire.
Posted by brasco - Fri 14 Sep 2012 19:36
Think it will be the Nokia for me, I really don't care for the camera tech but the nice design and OS and wireless charging are eye-catching features.
Posted by Crazywhores - Fri 14 Sep 2012 19:56
I've had an iPhone 3G now for 3 years lol.Just never got round to changing it. Never liked Android as it's too insecure for work. Windows phone OS is showing some very good potential and should be secure(hopefully). My next phone will be windows, as I've totlly gone off Apple with their determination to hang onto top spot by suing anyone who dares to use the same software techniques as them. Even though there is plenty of proof of prior art from other companies.

So, windows OS it is but not a Nokia 920. It has absolutely everything I want in a smartphone. But one thing I don't. Excessive weight. Come on Nokia, 185grams ffs. I have to be able to hold it to my ear for a long call.

So, it's looking like a Samsung Ativ S :)

Unibody - next iphone 5s ?
Looks like Apple guys wake a bit late.

And seriously, need some refreshments on software looks.

I would rather have an 1980's brick than an iphone but lucky for me I have an s3 lol…
Posted by TheAnimus - Fri 14 Sep 2012 21:38
Considering people where saying that the Lumia 920 was a lacking launch event, the iPhone 5 one made it feel positively charged.
Posted by benjamin2 - Fri 14 Sep 2012 22:25
I have an Iphone 4 and a 3GS an Ipad 2 and 2 macbooks (a pro and an air) and I was really looking forward to this release. I am sooo disappointed why would I want to pay an extra £10 a month plus an exorbitant upfront charge to get something that feels no different to use or hold in the hand. If i was the custodian of a company with xxx billions of dollars in the bank I would be sticking my neck out to change the game rather than produce something that made the shareholders comfortable. I never imagined myself saying this but come next month when my contract is up I will be plumping for the Lumia 920 as it has some genuinely new features!

Well that article is interesting, the author Neil Hughes must have quite the skill, I mean when my penis is that far inside my girlfriend she can barely utter anything polysyllabic let alone write an article. Yet he is clearly getting it from Apple.

On another note, it just made me realise something, no one I know with an iPhone has a rolex/omega/other-expensive-watch.

In fact everyone I know with whom I've had a discussion about the art of mechanical watches doesn't normally use apple.

Anyway, they finally ditched the glass on the back, because they realised it was pants on head retarded, maybe they will realise there are better technologies for the iPhone and do what they did with the nano, copy nokia.
Posted by GeorgeStorm - Sat 15 Sep 2012 01:32
Neither since they're so pricey, but out of the two Nokia easy.

Really like W7+ on the phone, I've no doubt they'll keep getting better.
Posted by wittgenfrog - Sat 15 Sep 2012 07:58
I'm pretty sure it'll be a NOKIA for me. I need to get my hands on one, and to have a play with WP8, but there's no chance of me buying the meh too iPhone….
Posted by Kinso - Sat 15 Sep 2012 08:46
Apple have already decided what the iPhone 5s will feature. Had the 3GS and 4S which seemed like a half decent upgrade but the 5 didn't excite me one bit. Love the design of the iPhone but will never truly enjoy it as it'll more than likely be wrapped in rubber to protect the £500+ purchase.

Not keen on the design of the Lumia 920 and I think like others have stated I'll wait and see if they get the hardware/software right before diving in. A very poor introduction from Nokia, with a chance to really turn the industry on it's head but nope.

It's going to be a hard decision, might have to wait and see before biting any bullets on this one!
Posted by bothered - Sat 15 Sep 2012 09:18
I said neither as I am not huge on Iphones but equally I am not ready for a return to Nokia - they certainly had their eye off the game for several years
Posted by anselhelm - Sat 15 Sep 2012 09:30
Neither.

I won't go with Apple as I'm not sold on phones by powerful marketing alone and I don't want in on the Apple cult, thank you very much.

As for that Nokia phone, no physical keyboard plus all my apps are on Android.

I won't change from my beloved Sony Xperia Pro (qwerty slider phone) until there's an actual phone available for networks in the UK which improves upon it in some significant way.

There isnt that much the S3 has over the Lumia, the processor really doesnt matter so much with windows as it runs extremely smooth even on a single core, the extra core is just for internet browsing and gaming, and other intensive apps

Really not a fan of the 920. Might change my mind when it comes out. The iPhone on the other hand just doesn't interest me anymore.

Having had a Samsung galaxy S2 for slightly over a year has made me realise I WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER ANDROID PHONE EVER AGAIN! The phone may be pretty high spec'ed for its time but if the hardware does not have decent software well there's no point. For example the phone randomly turns itself of before and after the ICS update and now since updating the phone to ICS the predictive text does not work and it turns it self off even more! Before this I have had windows phones ever since the orange SPV (that was a brick but it always worked!) through to HTC HD2. I also have a iPhone that is provided by the company i work for this is ok and i prefer to use it over the Samsung but its a bit meh!

So after that essay my next phone will be a Windows phone although I have 11 months left till my contract ends so may be the next Nokia or something better??

install a different keyboard perhaps? Each to their own I guess but that's a very easy thing to fix…I know it *should* work but you can re-install the samsung keyboard for example and off you go

Your phone is faulty. It has nothing to do with Android.

If the S2 had such a big problem, it'd be all over the web.

Note II would be my preference, although getting excited about the Motorola Intel edge-to-edge event on September 18th in London, to see what that brings.
Posted by jonathan_phang - Sat 15 Sep 2012 21:26
I have to say that I am leaning towards the Nokia. Currently have a HTC Sensation and wanting a bit of a change. Hardware wise, I like it all except maybe the thickness and weight. Might not be an issue but just need to try it out I guess.

From what I have seen from the OS it looks slick to use, but not sure how extensive the application market will be. If anything, just fancy a change.

Hope the contracts aren't too expensive.

A lot of apps do not support certain hardware and resolutions very well, although this is more noticeable on an android tablet like mine which is currently one of 2 devices with a 1920x1200 resolution, although with the huge popularity of Ouya, I may be getting more HD games :)

I'm still loving my galaxy S2 for £15 a month all in. I'm intrigued by the 920, and wouldn't touch the Apple even with yours. Too many shocking Apple products through work, none of which works properly and all of which were disgustingly overpriced for what is essentially moderate spec hardware.
When my contract runs out, I'll be looking towards the S3/S4 - I've had extremely good experiences with Samsung generally, and after Apple's lawsuit, I will be aiming to stick with Samsung wherever possible.

920 for me all the way. the iPhone 5 looks like too incremental an update to chose it over the 4S let alone the newer handsets.

i would like to see Nokia rising from the ashes.it's in everybody's interest to see some competition.Just look at the price, for God's sake…not because it's worth the top dollar, just because they can.but Nokia made too many mistakes lately,so chances are that the 920 will be the last NOKIA.
anyway between AppleOS and Windows 8 ,will choose Android.

Then I have a question for all Apple fans:
name a single device that Apple invented itself?…not the pc,not the ipod9(iRiver anyone..?)
not the Ipad(i saw the first tablets as far back as 2003),and they were not the firs on any single implementation on smartphones.
Apple is ALL about marketing…and I have to admit, the best design team money can buy.And an unnatural talent of starting fags.

I wont ever buy anything from isheep so got one of those sony xperia thingy. (love it so far)

Hope nokia can get up fast on their feet though

Actually a friend of mine who was travelling had a $150 dual sim andriod smartphone, it was really crap, but saved him having to carry two phones, and could do email. All he really wanted was a dual sim feature phone imsho.

Either way, be careful buying one.

I like my Galaxy II. It does what I need, it does it well (apart from calendar) and is far better at making and receiving calls than the iPhone.

When I change no doubt we will be at least one maybe two generations further ahead but if I had to choose now Nokia edge it. I use my phone for work so I do not want 1000 of Apps, I just need a few that work well, so a lot of the iphone potential is wasted on me (but is fine for others)

Likewise - quite happy with my S3 at the moment. :D

But if I had to choose, then it'd be the Lumia 920 - although personally, I'd much prefer the “lesser” 820 model, (removable battery and memory).

iPhone5 is okay in my book, but it doesn't have any feature that really pique my interest, and I really find the looks “unappealing” at best.

I remember shopping for dual-SIM candybar phones pre-iPhone days (i.e. when non-smartphones were the norm). A couple existed, but none were extensively reviewed but they generally seem behind the phones of major manufacturers. So I ended up buying a dual SIM adapter on Ebay (since most candybar phones had the SIM slots behind the battery and in older phones, there were often enough gaps between the battery and the back cover, it was sometime possible to squeeze the SIMs there). No longer an option on today's smartphones due to space constraits (besides, it was kinda crap anyway).
