No Warez Talk please :)

go and download a free (more importantly legal) AV scanner from www.grisoft.com

It soudns like NAV hasn't uninstalled gracefully.

google is your friend

definatly seems to be part of NAV

ok thanx,
i'm still getting those really annoying warning messages though. is there anyway of getting rid?
Posted by Moby-Dick - Wed 31 Dec 2003 11:09
go to start, run and enter MSCONFIG , then click ok
go to the startup tab ( should be the last one )and look for references to those files and untick them

ok, now i'm scared.
“Cannot find ”MSCONFIG“ or one of its components….”
Posted by Moby-Dick - Wed 31 Dec 2003 11:40
what OS are you using ?
Posted by klarrix - Wed 31 Dec 2003 11:44
win 2000
Posted by Moby-Dick - Wed 31 Dec 2003 11:51
that would explain it - W2k does not use MSCONFIG :)

Its just a way of editing what is run or looked for at startup.

I'll see if I can find an alternative for you .

download MSCONFIG from here :
http://www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/Msconfig.htm

into your winnt\system32 directory.

you shoudl be able to play with startup files to your hearts content.

Start, run, msinfo32
Software enviroment, startup programs.

What you got in there?

/edit - beaten by the moby!

hmmmm
i have a loada stuff that starts when i boot up (obviously) but the annoying part is that in both MSCONFIG and MSINFO32 there doesnt seem to be any recognisable mention of the warning popups i'm getting…
also, i still have no idea what damage i've done to my system by getting rid of these files and google isnt being the best help in the world

Give us the full errors and a list of your startup progs.
Posted by klarrix - Wed 31 Dec 2003 12:29
Here we go:

There is now only one error message at start up:
“Cannot find the file ‘C:\WINNIT\System32\cmd32.exe”

Full list of startup Progs:
NvMediaCentre
stukg00002
msnmsgr
LDM
Logitech Desktop Manager
FLMBELKINMOUSE
LoadQM
NvCplDaemon
nwiz
nForce Tray Options
bcmwltry
removecpl
zBrowser Launcher
Quicktime Task
AVG_CC

That’s it, and i don't think I can see anything about the error message that pops up every time i log in.

the entry for stukg00002 looks a little suspicious - not seen that before. When you get the error on boot up, whats the title of the window?
Posted by klarrix - Thu 01 Jan 2004 16:45
'C:\WINNIT\System32\cmd32.exe'
Basically the name of what it's moaning at.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/df0a595864594c86852567ac0063608c/33497f6e8a319ece88256ace0076cc02?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam

Go here, run this program to remove traces of the program.
If that does not work then there will be an entry in the registry under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run
in there there should be a line referring to what is missing, in the right hand pane, delete this entry then reboot.

kirb why dont u disable some of those useless progs that are slowing ur startup down, all that boots on my pc is NAV auto protect and C Media Soundcard Mixer, thats all besides crucial windows files.. things like Ligitech Desktop messenger are rubbish and should be removed or turned off

personally if you like win 2000 server i would urge u to upgrade to win server 2003, if u like win 2000 pro, upgrade to win xp pro :)
