Had a Sansa Clip. Really liked it. This looks like a very capable player. The reviewer, when discussing audio quality, mentioned “loudness”. These two aren't the same.

Perhaps the lack of negative comments about audio quality is encouraging, but it would be nice if the positive virtues of the player could be extolled explicitly. For instance: music sounds good due to tight bass and clean treble (if true).

I agree though unless you dabble in the simultaneously rarefied and yet murky waters of calling yourself an audiophile, it can be hard to do. I have the Clip+ and it's amazing for the price. The quality is extremely good through my etymotics and audiotechnica AD200 phones (both easy to drive). I have read enough that it is as good/better than iphone/ipod quality but you'll all have to do your own research.

Compared to music on the ol' smartphone, you'll get something with longer battery life (probably) and another virtue not extolled is that Rockbox (who write independent audio player firmwares) tend to support these devices. Not sure about the zip yet but only a matter of time if not. And on the Clip+ it extends the quality and capabilities - not just musically but also provide a large library of games(!), amongst others, which is insane on such a small screen.

Small, light, straightforward, high quality and inexpensive. The Sansa Clip range are all of these, making them awesome mainstay or back up music players. Here's a really detailed review for those considering:

I just wish they would bring back the sansa fuze, dislike the fuze + as i HATE touch buttons on a media player i want to navigate while its in the pocket :P.

In regard to audio quality, cant beat the sansa range in any close price range… only ones that compare are sony and cowon but their players are MUCH more expensive (well sonys are due to the lack of expansion slots…).

I got my sansa clip+ 4gb for £20 at currys :D, going strong but i miss my fuze (it didnt break just needed money at the time…) 8gb microsd that cost me £5 and theres a big ass media player there, the fact it supports many formats is one of the main advantages of sansa stuff, and i must say it can power my audio technica ad700 headphones reasonably well and with beta brainwavz B2 earphones it sounds excellent.


as Noli said, small light, straight forward, high quality and inexpensive which is why the SanDisk players are always in my top recommendations, cant fault them. Will never go back to an ipod, well i only borrowed my mates for a week and hated it :P, also the sansa can be synced with windows media player etc if you want to :).

Would be good to know if these support ‘dumb’ folder and filenames (without ID3 tags) the way my old sansa clip plus does. The older one has served me very well as a gym mp3 player and when I eventually kill it this is the likely replacement.

I agree with RobertIrwin. The clip+ was the only mp3player I could find which featured folder navigation, which I really like. I need to replace my clip+ soon, and need to know this stuff. I don't really care about colour screens.

My Fuze is still important to me because it does timed radio recording, which is fantastic.
