I guess by that you mean that they're not exactly bargain priced - although I'll reserve judgement until I see the £ price. Looks like Sony haven't learned the lesson that the only company that can get away with Apple-style “premium” pricing is Apple.

Hopefully they'll realise the mistake for the UK and, more importantly, decide to go for very aggressive pricing for the “P”. Reason being is that I think the “S” is merely another ‘droid tablet (yawn), but the “P” could be something worth looking at - since I’m guessing the form factor would be ideal for a pocketable device (which the iPad, Iconia, Xoom, Galaxy Tab, etc aren't).

It's been going on for years though. I think Apples success = quality marketing + stupid competitors.

They lack the ability to actually step back and realise ‘we can’t beat them, we can't join them, so lets undercut them'

They may be onto something with the folding twin screen version,
best of both worlds…

Tablets etc are too big to carry in your pocket, phones have too small a screen for extended reading (even with modern high res).

I still find their P-series laptop/netbook fantastic and it's pretty unique - smaller and better screen than netbooks - but again that was massively overpriced from the start.

I doubt it, somebody at work is going to buy a £15 phone and an iPad 3 with 3g. He intends to take both with him EVERYWHERE. You can't compete with this level of utter stupidity.

Thats why I never understood their pricing, they only cost £500 at first…..

Sony = no customer support, lack of software updates.

Sony = bloated crap added

Sony = overpriced - pay a premium for the name

Sony = Expensive pile of poo

Of course, switching into Asus fanboi mode, you could always point him at http://event.asus.com/mobile/padfone/ (assuming that Asus decide to sell it in this country). Heck - to my view at least - the tablet part even looks a bit like an iPad, (said that last bit quietly so as not to wake the Apple legal team up).

By the way, I'll politely disagree (slightly) with the idea that non-Apple folks need to “undercut” Apple - I'll quibble and argue that iPadx are overpriced, so it's more a case of others being more realistic. Oh, and some innovations/differentiators (like the Asus Padphone, SE P series, etc) would also be nice.

Here's an evil thought - will Nintendo try and sue because the P series looks a bit like a DS? :surprised: (Personally I credit them with more sense, so hopefully that's unlikely)
