Oh dear, retailers/etailers expect a avalanche of returns.

Oh bugger.
:(

Wonder if it's worth me switching my drives to the two other controllers on the mb?

Sandy Bridge seems to be somewhat of a rushed launch.
Posted by dangel - Mon 31 Jan 2011 17:46
Bit like that post ? :D

There's not much detail anywhere on what exactly the problem is and what people like me who have shiny new sandy bridge processors should do :(
Posted by EzyRyder - Mon 31 Jan 2011 19:45
quite glad I avoided Sandy now.

I have a few pitchforks and (unlit) flaming torches spare if anyone fancies joining me to visit Intel HQ.

Some info on scan's website about it

Why didn't I hold out for Bulldozer? I normally buy AMD, but figured I'd give Intel a go for a change. Can tell I'm going to regret it.

AnandTech have an excellent analysis of this: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4142/intel-discovers-bug-in-6series-chipset-begins-recall

Good on them for such swift action.. Sucks to be them right now though! That's a costly bug.

Dear early adopters,

i was an early adopter for nehalem and they still run flawlessly till this day

Meh, aidanjt is troll, do not feed.

Intel suck - Gen 2 of their SSDs was fecked and now these new chipsets. Not impressed! Thankfully i've got two other controllers on board so I can switch easily enough. Hadn't noticed a problem at all at this point (in fact i've been very happy with my system since upgrading) and it does seem that it takes time to show up regardless.

I just ordered one of these to tide me over.

Bah.

So Gen 1 is the best one to get lol. should be the other way round

As fun as it is to juggle a live hand grenade and shovel cash into a furnace, I happily waited to see if it would run flawlessly, first, in fact.

Nope, just being mean in pointing out the risk of not waiting to see whether or not new tech is reasonably bug free. :P
Posted by SystemOAD - Tue 01 Feb 2011 13:33
wow that's one major balls up on Intel's earnings, but at least they have found the bug early on and are already getting it all fixed and working on getting replacements for current buyers.

I guess that's a lesson well learnt not to buy as soon as something like this comes on the market for those that ordered it so early!

How wonderful for you dear!

i'm affected by this :(
got 6x2tb drives in a RAID5 array on the board and ports 2 or 3 keep dying meaning a 4 day rebuild, so glad its a recognised problem

taking it back to scan tomoz, swapping it for a 760 and a 1156 board
