This is a monster of a machine isn't it! Quad core CPU & GPU!

Pricing, what do we think? £300 a possibility or will the compete with the 3DS pricing to try to gain a foothold (although do they need it with the Android platform in the works as well?) Maybe the PSP2 will just be the usual high price/performance Sony product.

I'd just like to say….“DO want!” - very much so!

Edit: Uncharted on PSP2 - Engadget

Also Killzone, I HAVE to watch some video of these now!

ooooooooooooh!

My feeling is they will price it however they want, and won't be swayed by the 3DS pricing. After all, they didn't bow to pressure on the PS3 pricing in comparison to the Wii or Xbox 360.

No idea how the average public will see it, but I would look at this to be a very different beast to the 3DS, the fact it is a beast is the main reason and a massive jump up from anything we have seen in the hand held market. The 3DS is yet another iteration on the DS theme… 5th iteration I think?

Much better pics over at Kotaku - http://kotaku.com/5744675/yes-ive-played-with-sonys-new-gaming-portable-the-ngp/gallery/

I'm not sure if I like the design of the rear touchpad, I thought it was just a generic almost carbon fibre pattern until I saw the close up.

So if this can do PS3 level graphics it makes me think why does the PS3 need such powerfull hardware to do what it does, I know there is a small difference in the resolutions (960x544 for the PSP vs 1280 x 720 for the PS3) but still?
Posted by Rob_B - Thu 27 Jan 2011 13:14
The res makes quite a difference as you mention:

960x544 = 522,240
1280 x 720 = 921,600

Also don't forget there will also be texture/AA differences as well. It won't compare to a PS3 in reality but tech has moved on since the PS3 launched. On a smaller screen you can get away with lots less detail.

I wonder if we will see Microsoft releasing their first portable gaming device this year as well. Surly they must have something in the pipeline. As for the PSP2 with that kind of power I'm wondering what the battery life will be like. Moving to a flash based media will help but those spec's look like they will drain batteries very quick. I also doubt you will get much change from £300.

Hopefully the OLED screen will reduce power requirements as that is a BIG part of most devices usage. Flash media as you mention will also help.

On full tilt I doubt it'll last long, non replaceable battery too (although that never bothered me personally) So I'd think somewhere along the lines of 3DS battery life, after all it's suprisingly big so they can shove plenty of capacity in there.

Rumour is 4-5 Hours for the battery, I'm so impressed by this hand held. Hopefully it will have AAA titles.

Ridge Racer anyone?

WANT :p

That thing spec's wise is a monster - and im personally pleased with the choice of screen res… I think we're rapidly approaching the point where screen res' are becoming too dense for the size screen theyre on - Id rather have a smooth 60fps (pulling a figure from the air) at 960x res than a jerky 20-25fps at 1280x res.

Looks amazing anyways - hopefully they keep a relatively deep level of conecctivity with the ps3 too.

For a 5" gaming device, I wouldn't expect them to try a 1280x800 or similar res. In fact I'm half-surprised they didn't stick with 480x800 like the Dell Streak. I guess the internals could handle it, and maybe it's easier to get screens made with higher res these days.

Anything above that resolution is not really need on a 5" screen. COD Black Ops is rendered near the same res on a HD TV and nobody complains?

You generally sit a lot further away from a TV than you do a hand held console, so the dot pitch isn't an issue.
