Problem is, like he said, it's more of a warranty than an unbreakable drive. In most cases it will survive, in any other situations they will pay up to $2500 to get it forensically recovered.

The price will be based on the number of drives they expect to wind up being forensically recovered, and as soon as you let people start tinkering, you can't have a clue how many will be done properly and how many will have to be recovered. They could go bust very quickly if a large proportion of their customers were damaging drives to the level of data recovery.

I suppose they could sell a separate enclosure with no warranty system at all - i.e. it should save the drive, but if it doesn't, it's your own problem, but that wouldn't really inspire confidence. Also I'm not sure how easy that internal waterproof bag would be to fit at home, to ensure it's fully waterproof.

Why would you want to risk putting your own drive in the enclosure…

Remember your data does have some value.

I personally thought they were excellent - I took apart the portable drive and it's a pretty clever system inside

I have to say, I really like the idea of bolting it to the floor next to a server or something. The idea of having a real-time backup solution with the speed and reliability of something onsite that will be sitting there in full working order after everything else in the room has just melted is great.

Good idea and useful when combined with the data recover service. I love how he says on the price around $200 or £200… nice conversion again for the UK i see or was he caught off guard?:D.

Thankfully my data doesnt have that much value, if i had a flood or a fire here id be more worried about my actual systems and other items so i wouldnt buy one of these but if i was in the situation where it was important it would be on my short list.

Guy the first 3 minutes of the video is missing - we will fix this as soon as possible.

I'm actually curious to see if one of those enclosures with a mechanical hard drive inside can manage kinetic force just as well as a SSD.

I like it, I've seen a similar demo with one of their drives before, but they never fail to impress.

Any time HEXUS destroys (or attempts to destroy) something is something that I am always happy to watch. :mrgreen:

Definitely a handy product, but it's not for me as my data doesn't have the value for it to be worth it.
