So that is another cable I have to have plugged in. I mean why could they just not have gone with mini-usb? Would have been so much easier

I notice HTC is not among those on the list…

+1 for preferred mini-USB, can't ever make anything simple… :angst:

All using 1 charger will be wonderfull, micro-usb rather than mini is a pain though.

My nokia N95 was a huge pain when i got it, mini-usb on the bottom for data syncing, yet it cant charge over mini-usb, have to use the Nokia chargers… huge pain when plugged into a pc

my SE charger was stolen ages ago when someone broke in to our car on our holiday….i never bought another one

got my really old set off lego out, and built a docking station for my w910i using the USB cable. TBH i even prefere it to the charger now, since its so much easier to come in plug it in and it charges while i move music, films around etc

Hurrah for a common charger standard. Boo hiss for not using the appropaching-ubiquitous mini-USB. Wonder how long it'll be before we start seeing mini-USB to micro-USB adapters doing the rounds…

Really happy with this. One of the things i now take for granted with my BB is the ability to just plug it into any pc to charge over usb. Always a usb lead kicking around at home/work. You can pick up a mini to micro usb adapter for a couple of quid as well for future proofing current devices. Once standard is adopted will be good to not hear the old “Anyone got a Ericsson/Nokia/etc etc charger” queries any more :)

Apple doing it? You mean they have conceded and doing away with their current plug?!

Micro-USB is a pretty sensible idea as it gives the benefits of a small connector like the old Nokia one and a usb connection. Converting older mini-usb to micro shouldn't be too hard in either direction.

Hopefully SE will bundle this up date with Micro-SD as well and I can say good bye to M3 and SE Port.

Next up: MP3 players :)

Well sort of, their phones will only charge when you give the secret handshake, and they won't talk to PCs

No they will come out with Nano-USB becuase micro isn't micro enough, but it will be part of the open standard even though only they sell the Nano to Micro adapters ;)
