I think Sky has had a great deal of sucess by offering HD boxes for £50 but when you take all the subscription costs into account you are still paying hundreds of pounds each year. I wonder how many more people will keep signing up under current market conditions. I know quite a few people moving the other way and are dropping Sky now.
Bradyjames is absolutely correct. Many people are now realising the Sky monthly costs are not worth it. As the digital switchover comes in region by region people will be able to get BBC,ITV Ch4 and probably Ch5 on HD via Freeview. Of course they will need to buy a HD set top box but after that no more paying out. Those on Freesat can enjoy HD now . Humax do a great line in refurbished Foxsat HD boxes So if you have an old Sky dish you can get HD for free for ever for under £90:
People are not really buying SkyHD for freeview channels though IMO.
They are buying it to get their current sky channels in HD…..and that is why so many have ordered a box.
A few people I know finally went for it now the box is only £50 and the waiting times they have been told are shocking, the demand is that high…..at least 6 weeks I think the last one was told.
Nothing to do with the free boxes being offered at tesco right now, i suppose
We're in economic meltdown - all the unemployed need something to watch during the day. Sky sales will soar over the next 3 years.

Shop around and boxes are available everywhere for £29 - but only if you're a new subscriber. We have reduced our channels and gone for HD, but are finding that 2 channels we want to watch are on Freesat HD, so will be changing at a later date. Also, Sky+HD seems much worse in regards to silly errors and crashes with boxes….ours crashes at least once a week!
2 HD boxes here, one of which was from the initial batch when the service launched and another that was purchased in January……..and neither crashes.
I would get Sky out to replace your box.
Also, if one of those Freeview channels you want is ITVHD, you can manually tune into it once you get the new EPG software deployed to your box…….although only my initial one has been done so far (they are staggering it based on serial number)
Would that be the same Sky that caused us to lose telephone services for 3 days because the splitter box they used has died? Have spoken to them, but they are so busy that they can't come out and fix it till next week…
The box is a Samsung, when I say crashes, it just freezes and/or says no satellite signal. Sky have said they don't think the box is an issue…

I don't think so, Digital free view is some what better than what TV services were 10 years ago when unemployment was over 3 million. I don't think the unemployed have £20+ pounds to waste on TV a month.
I remember 10 years ago sky only cost me £7 for the entertainment pack, that was value, but today its money for rubbish.
