These are certainly a welcome upgrade to the old D630's etc..

They look fantastic and the specs are really great. Shame the smallest one doesn't have an optical drive but hopefully the price will reflect it.

these look beautiful, my oppinion of dell is only headed in one direction - to the sky!

They're nice machines - I had a look at them when I was at Dell HQ a couple of weeks ago.

The only concern is that to get a serial port you need to use a small docking adapter so that would be one more thing to carry about with me when travelling. Having a serial port is absolutely essential to me - USB convertors often don't work and I do a lot of work on Cisco kit.

Yeah serial ports were my old companies main reason for buying dell, that and HP suck, as USB one's don't often work (although they did find one perfect one :)).

Which one was that, if I may ask, Mike? We've messed about with serial and parallel converters here, and with the honourable exception of Quatech, they've all been pants. As far as the new Dells go, I'm a big Latitude fan anyway, and these look fabulous.

I couldn't tell you off the top of my head. I'll try and find out for you though :)

If I could find a USB adapter that worked reliably then I'd buy a box full of the things. Unfortunately all the ones I've tried have been iffy to some extent - I found one that was great for terminal stuff but would barf at X-Modem and the only time I do X-Modem transfers is when there is no option so having an iffy serial port is a huge problem.

Apparently some of the bluetooth serial adapters are very, very good. I must get one and try.

Aww, now my D620 is out of date :(

Sure it was out of date when the D630 was released :p Well internally anyway.

Yea but at least the D630 looked the same so you couldn't tell ;)

The laptop is cool. I purchase a new from dell. However, The battery of running time is too low. I bought new one from batterygoshop.co.uk/dell/latitude-d620-battery.htm . Does anyone have this problem?:juggle::juggle::juggle:

What, spamming fora with posts punting dodgy third-party battery shops? Fail.
