I'm still running a 1050TI in my HTPC, it's excellent for emulators as most seem to be optimised for Nvidia rather than AMD. I have an RX580 in my main rig and it does worse on Dolphin, Citra, Cemu and Yuzu than the comparatively weaker 1050TI.

All of those seem to use OpenGL rather than Vulkan or DirectX, and AMD's OpenGL performance on Windows is abysmal.

So that will put the rumour to rest that Samsung cannot supply enough chips as GP108 (GT1030) and GP107 (GTX 1050 / GTX 1050 Ti) are made by Samsung, not TSMC.

I'd happily take a 2070 instead of a 3060 for example if the price is the same but just re-releasing the lowest end 1xxx gpu's (and even the 2060 in all honesty) just seems like trolling in some respects because no one wanting a decent 3xxx series is going to buy a 1050 or a 2060 when you think about it, it's likely they're wanting to upgrade from a 1xxx already.

Something REALLY needs to be done now, you literally can not buy a ‘high end’ gpu….I've seen people on forums who are still waiting since release last year (September) for their card… it's not all down to the pandemic after nearly 5 months that's for sure.

Noise is that the GTX1050TI is being released because of it's use of GDDR5 meaning it isn't great at mining. However, the GTX1650 and GTX1660 were the same,so why not re-release them too??

1050ti was on Samsung's 14nm process, 1060, 1650 etc were on TSMC 16/12nm. Could be as simple as that: Samsung have the capacity to spin up promptly, TSMC doesn't. Porting to another process would take time they don't have to waste.

I wonder how many OEM office machines will ship with GT1050 in the coming months. Knowing some sites it'll be charged as an upgrade from on-die graphics too, worded in such a way as to sound cutting-edge!

I'd rather go back to my Radeon HD 6870 than buy a 1050 Ti in 2021 if me GPU were to fail next week. Yes, the 1050 Ti is better… but it's buying a five year old GPU, and almost certainly not at five-year-old GPU prices.

Then again I have a colleague who bought a 1050 last month because it was the most powerful GPU he could find for his new rig… so they probably will sell.

what? NO way I am better off with my UHD, I cant promote mind control. Suddenly Nvidia selling us 980 will be okayish.

The shortage is really sinking in now.

When the miners start to sell their cards, eBay will have to create a LOT of 0 feedback accounts to ensure the prices remain high.

It might be that - but I would assume TSMC must be fine as the latest Nintendo Switch update uses a Tegra X1 made on TSMC 16NM,so there must be capacity available?

This came out over 4 and a half years ago.. technology seems to be going backwards here! O..o

Tesla decided to accept cryptocurrency as payment, I guess mining madness is back, we will have no new cards, even old cards on the market.

Do people really want a 1050ti? I've got a 1060 and I want to upgrade… and the 30 series are a really good generational leap, can't imagine that many people would really want to buy these old cards that are coming back

The 2060 would have to be at a really attractive price…

I imagine it's for the “need a home office pc” brigade to let the OEM's meet demand. They just need something to run a couple of screens and power a few zoom calls, maybe if it's really crazy do some basic photo editing. 1050 perfectly able to handle that. It might also hint at delays for anything below a 3060 for the time being if it allows the fabs to divert more time to supply 3060 and above.

Yes I think your last point seems most likely to me - Linus mentioned it on his WAN show last night. If they only have limited wafer supply for the 8nm, they'll use it for 3060s+ which they make greater margins on, and just serve the lower end market 1050ti's instead!

I suppose it might mean supply of 3060+ may be better than it would have been otherwise, so perhaps a tiny silver lining!
