Overcooked was great fun.

We used to love modern warfare 2, but we had 4 screens and 4 consoles in the room. As for co op on one console, I'll have to go with Mario Kart. I loved it on the n64, gamecube, wii, and wii u/switch. Never failed to make everyone competitive

Overcooked was great fun.

+1 to overcooked.

Mario Kart is still a winner, regardless of the platform. And personally I'm a big fan of Hell Divers, sadly the other half isn't so much and playing with randoms online want so fun…

Another vote for overcooked, Drawful 2 is good fun too.

Not sure if this counts as couch co-op but Keep Talking & Nobody Explodes is great fun too. One of you can see the pc/tv/vr/tablet screen which shows a bomb. The rest of you have a printed (yes, you print it onto dead trees and everything,) bomb diffusal manual. The person with the screen describes the bomb, those without try to figure out how to disarm it before the timer runs out. Hilarity ensues.

It's on every platform under the sun and fairly cheap, I strongly recommend giving it a go. Introduced a friend to it who works in China teaching English. He now uses it as part of the course.

Not strictly co-op, but my young sons love playing Atari Combat (tanks and planes) on my woodgrain VCS :)

Are any of those couch co-op (or even couch Vs) games?

For us its usually one of the Jackbox games (especially drawful), Overcooked or on the xbox for Minecraft or Halo (or via a computer each or steam streaming). It used to be Mario Kart, but it got too competitive.

Mario Kart probably wins just because it's so accessible. Don't tend to have many people close to me that are “gamers”, so that's about the best we can get away with.

About 5 years after buying it, I'm still waiting for a friend to play Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime with me :(

Overcooked if you want an excuse to throw a controller at something/someone

Me and the Wife loved playing Portal 2 together. It's just a shame that there wasn't really any replayability.

My girlfriend is yet to play portal. I'll have to get her to do the co-op with me as I think she'll fall in love with it. She seemed to be very interested while watching me play through the half life series again.

Acorn, an asynchronous VR multiplayer game is a lot of fun. One person is in the VR headset and is in a God mode and has to protect their nuts on their tree, whereas everyone else is on their phones as squirrels and are trying to steal those nuts by running or sneaking up to the tree.

My all time favourite couch co-op has to be Speedball 2. Shame they never managed a decent reboot.

Rocket League has split screen, my kids enjoy playing that with me sometimes, but really, local co-op on PC is something that is nearly as dead as LAN support, quite annoying when you have a house full of PC gamers.

Not a co-op game but me and my mates love drunken Nidhogg, it gets very competitive.

Nidhogg can be a blast, I like how the tides can turn so quick.

Human fall flat is a great co-op. Also as others have said overcooked is good too. I haven't played co-op for a long time but prophunt used to be a blast. I believe there's actually a game based on the garry's mod version called witch-it that looks half decent.

Never played co op.

Nintendo Land on the Wii U had some fantastic co-op games that were only really possible due to the tablet. For example, a hide and seek game where the person hiding played on the tablet while everyone else ran around looking on the TV. The Switch seems a bit of a downgrade in not being able to use both at the same time.

Any of the older lego games. Don't require any skill and you can't really die so suitable for all ages and skill levels (My wife barely plays and kids are very young so these are games we can all play). I'm talking Harry Potter 1&2 and Indiana jones - The newer ones just aren't as much fun (Incredibles/lego movie 2) as they've introduced too many mechanics and made combat hard for the inexperienced.

Back in the day there were a lot more games to co-op or play together on the same couch. I used to love playing with my brother Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament, Road Rash 2, Sonic 2, Robocop vs Terminator and Lethal Enforcers.

These days I don't play co-op. Some games that are probably good are Sonic Mania, driving games, board games like Ticket to Ride, Talisman. I've also heard Overcooked is fun co-op, though never played it co-op myself.

Also apparently Divinity: Original Sin 2 can be played split-screen. Who knew!

I believe Diablo 3 Eternal on XB1/PS4/NSW is local co-op?
Posted by Barkotron - Wed 20 Jan 2021 11:28
Couch games I only really know Nintendo, so:

Mario Kart obviously, but if you still have a Wii U then Mario 3D World is hard to beat for a co-op. Coming out again soon on the Switch, it'll be interesting to see how they manage to get around the need for the gamepad thing.

The Yoshi games are decent too, Woolly World and the Switch crafty one.

Snipperclips is good fun if you want a quick puzzly game.

Recently enjoyed Guacamelee, Brunch club, regular human basketball and ultimate chicken house via local play and remote play co-op
