That AM4 socket got to be one of the most long lived sockets in PC history, and still like me with TR4 people are probably going to whine,,,,, at least some people.
In all fairness if I remember correctly AMD promised board support for Ryzen until 2020 which they have done beyond what one could normally expect given the pace of technology advances. I'm not knocking Intel as they have made some great chips but on the consumer side having to keep changing motherboards has always been a wallet rapist. Despite any squabbles from peeps just remember how long this AM4 has been running and the options we've had. For myself I have appreciated it and sit here content on an R5 2600 @ 4Ghz very comfortly. I cannot see me upgrading to the new Ryzens unless I get a silly spare cash flow and suffer acute boredom , this little baby is well fast enough for me , in fact overkill as it is.
Have not seen a better support of the product lines than what AMD offer, it is amazing they can keep on slashing stuff into that socket.
well, that saves my X470 Crosshair from being replaced with the Dark Hero (love that name) or the B550xe…

Hehe could be i roll Am3 into 4, my last AMD was S939 or what ever it was called.
Anyway my rather expensive TR4 board with a gen 1 threadripper in it, well i can upgrade to a gen 2 threadripper, but thats also it.
And all of this cuz i had to have a CPU ( PC ) with more cores than my at the time decacore phone, so got the 1920X and kicked it up to 4GHZ,,,,,, and i also think it should last me a good while anyhow.
My only bother is the power consumption, but as i rarely let it rip, then its not too bad.
But still a long way down to 100 Watts :)

It's not so much the extra cost involved for me it's the amount of extra E-waste generated from changing boards/socket all the time, Intel like to make a big deal of how green they are but forcing people to buy a new motherboard if they want a newer/fast CPU is not in the slightest bit green, and it's not like there's much of a market for second-hand boards.

Super 7 was great for it's broad compatibility of CPU's (Intel Pentium, AMD K5 & K6, IBM Cyrix, IDT Winchip). It's a shame I always found them to be less than stellar when it came to stability/reliability… Especially when it came to those terrible AGP miniport drivers and bad AGP implementations with some (or most) chipsets.
Now waiting to see if Asrock will support Ryzen 5000 on their X470 Taichi board…
