Still rocking a Z77 with a 3770k, 16gb ram, I did have an unexpected tax rebate today tho, so I'm looking for a new motherboard, ram, cpu right now!
X570 in a MSI Unify mobo, and no RGB :thumbs up: (the only thing in there with any illumination is a wee bit of RGB on the GPU, a 5700XT Pulse, and the power/temp gauge on the mobo). So far so good, stable barring a curious intermittent glitch with You Tube (website) which looks more like a Windows 10 issue that completely locks the machine.
It has everything I could hope for features wise plus the odd one that I would have happily done without (wi-fi mainly, why? first port of call for anyone using a desktop surely is a hardwired connection). Spec in the sig.
x370 (Gigabyte AX370-Gaming K5), fine for me and gaming etc. at the moment
X470 with an R7 2700. Going to upgrade the cpu next year and keep this motherboard going for a long time.
z97i, still holding it's own with a faithful 4690k & a gtx 970. We'll see how well New World goes down, but I just can't fault it for my needs at the mo :)
I had a few “upgrades” early this year and strangely the main 3 pc's in use now all run Asus B450 motherboards with either Ryzen 2600 or 2700X in them (as best price at time, both motherboard and cpu's)
Perfectly happy with the outcomes. Motherboards and cpu's all excellent
Z390 (Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro), it does what I want it to perfectly fine although it would be nice to get back to boards that don't have led's to “bling” them up.
X570… with some subtle RGB - loving having 3x M.2 sockets on tap…two of which are PCI Gen 4 - not a single SATA cable in sight right now. This will keep me happy for a wee while.
pastymuncher
Z390 (Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro), it does what I want it to perfectly fine although it would be nice to get back to boards that don't have led's to “bling” them up.
My B450 boards don't have too much but do have a 4-pin rgb connector which I have actually tapped into (had some 5050 smt leds spare - honest guv)
Z390 and zero intention of upgrading for a long time.
X570 in an AORUS Master.
Offering plenty of ports including 3 M.2, and PCIe 4.0. But as this was only built earlier this year, there is certainly no need for a chipset upgrade any time soon.
Primary B450
Secondary Z77
Both enough for their uses.
Asus x570 mITX, With an r5-3600.
Absolutely brilliant.
B450 the ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING to be exact. came bundled with a 3600 for £30 ish cheaper than buying seperate.
had to buy it at that price. the previous phenom II gigabyte thingy from my sister (after my biostar forgot what ram was and wouldnt detect any) that forgot what the BIOS was and wouldn't even post anymore.
16 GB of 3600 mhz generic ‘ryzen optimized’ corsair ram went in no probs.
still using mechanical drives for stuff, couldnt afford more than a 250gb ssd for C in the emergency purchase. everything runs fine enough, dont see any need to get better other stuff, like a newer GPU and a monitor thats bigger than 1680x1050. the 750ti that i won from HEXUS back in 2014 still powering that just fine, and it seems to be running stuff faster on this ryzen than it did on the phenom, so even less a reason to upgrade.
dying light ultimate edition (won from techland a few weeks ago) runs very nice on it as does the surge, subnautica below zero and NIOH.
and its all plugged into an Enermax 350 W naxn.
edit: chipset stuff:
the external USB drives making POST take a longtime is odd, the pprevious computer with USB 3.0 ports, boot up was only 25 secs, its 45 or so on this one. so theres some chipset/USB 3.x reasons theyve slowed down. stuff copies to them about twice as fast though get over 100 mubs (MB/s, mB/s Mb/s??) on big files.
tiny bit confused about the m2 slots and how they affect the pci-e ports , but thats for another thread.
the fan setup in Fan Xpert, is glorious, just run the tuning and it detects what all the fans can do, gives yiou a speed curve graph where you control ‘the noise and blowyness’
because of the ryzen auto tuning temp thing it does, i just set the fans to the silent bit on the curve, and let it auto do its thing. under and over clocks depending what it feels like and its been around 42c for most of this past week or so. up to around 45 ish during heavy gaming. thats good right? for the stock cooler?
the RGB logo bit is still on, just to remind me that ive not turned it off at the wall yet, so thats handy.
all the rest of the ROG stuff is just on auto, dont really need it, as i said, only got this board cus it was on offer for £30 less in a bundle..
i suppose because its their top B450 board, it likely to support more ranges of ryzen going forward, like the 4 and 5xxx series maybe/ notthat ill be upgradiung for another decade or so at least, Ryzen 12xxx series will be out then maybe? 256 core or so. maybe intels 10nm range will be out……..
X370 with an AMD r7 1700 @ 3.0-3.7 GHz
Can still run most games at the highest settings.
I will likely keep this current setup for a couple more years.
Z270. No complaints as a gamer. Runs like a dream, about to put a RTX 2180 Ti / 3080 Ti, whichever it ends up named, on this TUF Z270 board and stretch it another few years. Not even close to wearing out the 5Ghz i7 7700K that inhabits the socket.
On the computer I'm on now, I'm running the Mobile 965 Express chipset. Can't really complain, I've been using it for 13 years, and it has proven quite reliable despite a fair amount of overclocking over the years.
On my main computer, Z68. I went with it because it was hardly any more expensive than P68. I don't think I've used any of the additional Z68 features, but again, I can't complain, it's been super reliable.
Clarification: I'm on the PM965 variant, with discrete graphics. Unfortunately, they're nVIDIA graphics instead of ATi, as the nVIDIA GPUs of that generation are prone to failure. But they can be replaced fairly easily, and the fault isn't with the chipset.
I do have a more modern laptop too, which runs one of the Coffee Lake chipsets, but I'm honestly not sure which one. I prefer to read Hexus from the laptop whose specs match my username, however :).
I will probably upgrade to a current AMD chipset in my desktop some time in the next next 2 years or so, at this point Sandy Bridge is surprisingly sufficient, and it would be nice to skip from DDR3 to DDR5. But if I had to buy tomorrow, I don't know if I'd buy B450, B550, or X570. If I had to in three months, probably B550, assuming it settles in price a little bit.
Z370 Asus Maximus Hero x with an 8700k. Not planning on upgrading for a couple of years at least
H170. Yeah, it offers me one USB to plug my mouse.
Intel Z97, with an i5-4590. Upgraded the graphics card to an AMD RX 580 earlier this year and also the memory, in the last month, to 32Gb. Still play FPS's fine, only at 1600 resolution.
Might upgrade the CPU next.
X570 (MSi) with a Ryzen 3700X and an RTX2070 Super (evga)
Main PC ( my last upgrade last November I think ) MSI B450 Pro Carbon paired with a Ryzen 5 2600 , 16GB Gskill 3200,Sapphire RX570 , Samsung 250GB Nvme + 500GB Samsung SSD 2nd drive. Second PC has Asus M4A88TD-V EVO AM3 Board pairedwith a Phenom11 x 4 965 Be 12GB 1600 DDR3 and a Radeon 6770. Both PC's run great except having Win10 on Ryzen one gives me crappy text output to TV/Monitor so will be installing Win7 back on that shortly.
NVIDIA® GeForce™ 720D on an ASUS M4N78 with Phenom II 960T.
Hoping to upgrade to an X570 and Ryzen 3600 soon.
Mine's on a Z390. I'm quite happy with it but I do wish it had Thunderbolt.
I'm currently running a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 motherboard from June 2010. It lacks proper SATA 3 (the two ports tagged on via 3rd party support are well known to be buggy), so my SSD's are limited in performance, and has just a couple of USB3 slots. No NVMe support either from that era. I can't wait to enjoy much faster drive performance in the future! It's not too bad for its age though.
X570. Can't see anything that I need that it doesn't offer me.
X570 on a asus crosshair 8 wi-fi. Does way more than I need but got it for a song ;)
X99 No upgrade planned. Still on Win 7 and aiming to keep it that way for a while.
overclocked i7-920 on a Gigabyte EX58-UD5
Will upgrade this year to a minimum of a 6 core processor
x570 in my main rig atm, although I'll be going back to B450 when I get my new APU and the x570 board replaces my i5 3470 build.
Upgraded not long ago from my Z77 with my trusty 3570k to my current X570 with a 3700X.
I belive it´s not the chipsets fault but had a lot of problems with a couple x570 boards in the early days of zen 2 but now at last everything works without a hitch.
I belive i won´t need to upgrade anytime soon but we´ll see what the last zen CPU with DDR4 will look like :)
X99 (Asus Rampage V Edition 10 with a 6950X OCed to 4.4) , need the extra pcie lanes for gtx 1080 ti SLI for cuda programing.
Z370, in an Asus Prime Z370-A. Only got it last year, so hopefully it will last ten years like the X58 it replaced did until I wanted more performance.
My newest PC build is based on the B550 chipset, with an MSI MAG B550M MORTAR motherboard to be exact. A little overpriced but MSI gave me a Steam code voucher for £44.91 (50 EURO) as I bought it along with an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X. I'm a gamer so I'll put it to good use and it therefore makes the board a little better value. I fancied a newer chipset with some scope to the future. Mind you, if I hold to past traditions, it's unlikely I'll buy a newer generation processor for it but you never know.
Still rocking a Z270 (Maximus IX Hero) with an OC 7700k. It isn't causing me any issues so I'm not looking to replace it just yet, maybe in another year or two.
X570 Prestige Creation MSi with a 3950X and 128gb of Trident Z Neo 3600 Cl16 ram and it can have up 3 M.2 PCie Gen 4.0 with the add in card that it comes with..
acekorneya
and it can have up 3 M.2 PCie Gen 4.0 with the add in card that it comes with..
If I'm not mistaken, it can have 4!
X99 on an AsRock Extreme 4. Only way to get 6 cores and 12 thread then. Still does everything I need it for.
Having said the above, I'm really looking at an upgrade that is overdue, so just for the hell of it would be nice to move to an X299 with 32 cores. Not keen on burning money on 64.
I'm rolling with the mighty Z270 courtesy of Asus's TUF Z270 MARK I.
My ASUS TUF B450 Plus Gaming failed a few weeks ago and I've reverted back to my trusty ASROCK Z97 Anniversary and my i7 4770s, so, for now, I'm rocking a Z97!
Asus Rampage VI . I am waiting to upgrade when the Ampere cards are launched.
Asus x570 Tuf gaming - Got it so I could go 4700x or similar in a few years and save replacing everything. Got everything I need and more. Even has a second NVMe slot so I can upgrade from the tiny 256gb drive I have. It also has a nice subtle RGB effect to go nice with the OTT RGB case I have!
X299 on an ASUS ROG Strix X299-E Gaming II
Z87, Asus Maximus Gene VI. Has not missed a beat in all these years. Am looking to upgrade but in no rush.
B450 with a Ryzen 5 2600 for desktop, and the laptop has whatever support chipset goes with the i7-8750H. Hoping everything will last a while.
B450 for desktop.
In two minds about 550/570.
X99 Chipset ASUS Rampage V Extreme with 5960X
I'm due for an upgrade for sure, This system has done well for this long.
Going to AMD X570 with upcoming Zen 3 4950X 16 core
Upgraded to x570 MSI Gaming Edge/Ryzen3700x recently.
Asus prime Z390-A paired with a i7 9700k
Works ok for me
x570 and H55 (remember those!?)
