Anthem. Not for the game itself (which thankfully I got for free with my graphics card and didn't pay for it) but more for the popcorn moments on the Reddit for the game.

Final Fantasy XIV, it is a really good game and the latest expansion is stunningly well made…. but to be honest I don't really know… games today more or less seem thoughtless made whenever it get to it.

I honestly haven't come across anything entirely new this year that has blown me away, the PC version of RDR2 is probably the best for me if you can count it. But other than that only The Outer Worlds and Disco Elysium have been decent and interesting titles, even so both have flaws that leave me wanting a more ambitious sequel released.

I didn't get any new releases this year i can recall. I did get RDR2 on Xbox One when it was cheap enough however.

Mostly though I've been playing older or retro games most of the year or MMOs.

It's only just out, a little bit buggy and punishingly hard but Phoenix Point is currently tickling my UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka XCom) nerves quite nicely. If you miss turn-based strategy games being really, really unforgiving then PP is for you.

Anthem… ONLY for the load screen music. You know, the screen that shows the Javelin, and the folks milling around, before you load up the game. A masterpiece of cinematic music. Shame thegame didn't live up to it's post game screen.

I've thoroughly enjoyed:
RAGE 2
Metro Exodus
Crackdown 3
Division 2
Gears 5
The Outer Worlds
Lonely Mountains Downhill

For me that has to be Black Desert Online. A very addictive MMORPG with weekly updates for new events to keep the interest.

It takes the The Elder Scrolls Skyrim concept forward to multi user, whilst adding incredible detail to life skills, questing and guilds. (The Elder Scrolls Online follow up lost depth as a multi user).

Superb graphics, which challenge my i5 setup in player intensive spots.

I've now clocked up ~2000 hours in 13 months, but much of that is AFK (Away From Keyboard) activity, such as ore processing, fishing and horse distance training. Technically free access, but the game shop can easily have one overspending.
Yes, I now know how players clock up 10,000+ hours… Probably as well that I'm retired.

Thanks for bringing that one to my attention, just might give it a try. Before I do though, what is the community like?

In terms of guides there are many good ones, though it looks like the game peaked three years ago, so guides do have the odd aged detail. They are very necessary as there is a lot to get one's head around.

Player to player internal comms are rarely used. Players regard others with suspicion, as only safe areas are in towns or under level 50. Even though all but one server is classed as PvE.

Discord within guilds is more the group chat.

£7.99 on Steam for the basic starter. The Internal shop prices I'd class as expensive. Expect to pay a monthly sub equivalent for convenience…

Sorry dude but Black Desert Online is a full on P2W game with god awful pvp and zero endgame. There's nothing to do other than afk crafting or afk fishing. Typical cash grab P2W Korean trash mmo.

everybody else seems to hate it but i`ve been really having a ball playing wolfenstein youngblood, the first game to get me enjoying the `rpg` elements of gaming- something i`ve struggled with in other games.
visceral fighting and excellent graphics, level designs are also great.
the devs really did, and continue to with the free dlcs, put a lot of effort into it.

also gives me a chance to be a teenage girl online without (the rest of this comment has been censored on the advice of my lawyers).

I'm really enjoying the outer worlds at the moment. Not had much play time this year (young kids) but its certainly been one decent RPG that actually feels completable in a decent time frame…

Disco Elysium

I love the art style of this, but I'm not sure the game will play how I think it will. Is it really great? What other game does it play like?
