I was sooo tempted to finally get a 55in LGC9 OLED but the fact is I only really want a new TV for the PS5 & Xbox Two, this time next year. So, either the C9 will be even cheaper then (if still available) or its successor will already be on sale by Black Friday 2020.

I bought 3 games in the Steam Autumn Sale earlier in the week if that counts, but other than that, nothing.

I didn't really pay much attention this year as I'm more focused on having a Ryzen 3950X build in the near future.

Meh bugger all. Nearly grabbed a laptop for one of the kids but had already sold out.

I'm sure something else will turn up in the next 3 sales that are likely to happen before Xmas!

I remember when I was a kid and waking up to go to the Boxing Day sale when it actually meant something. It's all just monthly marketting these days.

my mum was considering getting this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Giant-Panda-Cartoon-Clothing-Costume/dp/B081CGV9RB/ref=sr_1_21 but its slightly too big to fit in the spare room.

did get 8TB elements, and a couple of books - Legends of the Alfar series, and latest book in Dwarves series.

You have to jump through a few hoops and not already have a Very account.

1. Go to very.co.uk, add the Ryzen to your basket (£199.99 +£3 postage.)
2. At checkout take the option to set up a Very credit account (like a store card.)
3. When thats done enter code “PAQ96” and it gives you £50 credit on your first purchase as long as its over £100. This is then deducted from the price.
4. Pay off the credit account within 1 month to avoid interest at a riddiculous 39.9%. Optionally also close the account.

Ah thanks for the info. Unfortunately I already have very account.

Got a switch, not great deals sadly but were getting one before Christmas either way and Tesco was sold out. Very, £25 off code for new customers not doing the credit account.

Been wanting to buy a well-specced Dell XPS 15 laptop for a while and thought I would wait until now to see if I could get one for a good price but was shocked to see the price jump up a couple of weeks ago and drop back down as a “Black Friday deal”.
Feeling cheesed off about the practice so putting the purchase on hold until the new year Grrr!

Knowing my luck the price will go back up and stay there but somehow I doubt it..

Had a lovely bacon sarnie for lunch, that's all I've purchased today.
Posted by simonpreston - Fri 29 Nov 2019 19:06
Feels massively underwhelming, this year. I did buy a 4k Blu Ray player but that's been on the cards for a while. I just got one that was discounted a little.

Not seen anything that has made me jump up and think ‘I have to get that now’.
Posted by LSG501 - Fri 29 Nov 2019 19:57
Some clothing, if it fits properly when it gets here…. getting clothes that actually ‘fit’ seems to be getting harder these days.

Other than that nothing really.

Almost bought a watch and a 3D connexion wireless spacemouse pro but decided to wait a bit on them both.

I actually managed to sell something today, met a nice bloke at a London Underground station and sold him my 970 Evo 500b for £75.

He was very nice, no problems at all, only slight point of concern might have been that the NVME SSD was new and boxed and I paid £30 more for it myself (and it shipped from Italy.)
C'est la vie.

I got 3 pairs of shoes for work off Amazon, a CD Album for a band I like ( it was cheaper to get the CD than the digital only version, and I still get a digital version too!), and two Steam games: Life is Strange: Before the Storm and Rise of the Tomb Raider 20th Anniversary Edition.
Posted by Percy1983 - Sat 30 Nov 2019 00:36
Got a 8TB external drive for £104.99, good to backup all my data on 1 drive again.

I was in the balance then noticed amazon was offering 5 payments of £21.00 over 5 months which pushed me over the edge.

I bought the new Antec P120 Crystal case from Scan on the sale but not a huge discount though it is priced very well any way…Installed and have it all setup…looks great and was fairly easy to build in..

Did not get anything, sales were a bit meh but hopefully boxing dayy is better

Nothing.
Posted by chj - Sat 30 Nov 2019 08:27
There doesn't seem to have been any real bargains, just a lot of marketing. Saying that i did end up getting a 1TB SSD to breath some life into my old laptop.

I'm having second thoughts now, forgot about this cyber monday business…bollocks.
Posted by Corky34 - Sat 30 Nov 2019 09:32
Nothing, IDK how it works across the pond but some (most?) UK retailers simply treat it as some sort of marketing campaign instead of genuinely discounting things to get their books in the black, 20% off on black Friday is not a one off event or special if you've offered that or even bigger discounts in the past.
Posted by meuvoy - Sat 30 Nov 2019 09:39
Nothing! Past experience says I can't really buy anything on Black Friday, someone will buy it first. Past experience also says that the deal will most certainly repeat on the Cyber week or in January when it's actually possible to buy.
Posted by spike_uk - Sat 30 Nov 2019 11:29
I only got a WD green 240GB ssd for my dad's laptop.
Posted by anselhelm - Sat 30 Nov 2019 11:33
Absolutely bugger all, but that's because I use price-tracking sites to see whether someone's actually a good deal, rather than buying on impulse. Nothing that I'm after has been on sale.
Posted by Gregorius - Sat 30 Nov 2019 12:37
Most things I find in Black Friday sales are bad deals, it's just a day for people to binge on things before Christmas I suppose.

I did get a Fractal Design R6 case from Scan but I still could have gotten one cheaper if I held out a bit longer.
Posted by nar53 - Sat 30 Nov 2019 12:44
2 x Makita 18v batteries for less than the price of one. and an LG 29" widescreen monitor.
Posted by Dareos - Sat 30 Nov 2019 13:20
Xbox One X, purely because my Day One edition has been problematic and needed reset a few times lately -£300 with Star Wars so not too shabby

of course then I see the Digital S for £82 and thinking that would go nicely in the Tenerife house, but i'm passing on that atm, cant really justify it atm.

I am on the lookout for parts to build my godson his first PC (8 years old) and was hoping for some nice discounts, maybe cyber monday will have a few more deals.

Black Friday does not make sense in this country, with the exception of the multinationals like Amazon who dont pay much attention to fiscal years as they dont appear to pay tax anyways.

Black Friday works in the US as the fiscal year is Jan to Dec, meaning that shops move into the Black around november and any existing sales at that time are then profitable, allowing them to sell off existing stock at lower prices.

In the UK we work on an April to March basis, because reasons i suppose, i mean i'm sure theres a very good reason for it, bit like the football season being Sep-May, and the school system being Aug to Jun, (or Sep to July in sassenach country). Anyway, its the way we do it, and because we do it that way, that means its the right way to do it, right?

As I was saying, what we used to have before Black Friday jumped all over it, was the January Sales, which, like Black Friday, was when the majority of UK retailers went into the black and therefore could pass on massive savings on existing stock to us, the humble consumer.

Of course this was all in the days of queueing up outside marks and spencers on the 2nd of January, nursing a hangover from new year (well, at least up here, i know our southern neighbours actually opened shops at midnight on 31st Dec to usher in the sales, this is sacrilege as the only thing that should be opened at the bells is a fresh bottle) and glaring at the wee wifie who you knew was making a beeline for the dressing gown you had your eye on.

So, ignoring all that waffle, black friday deals in the UK generally are not that impressive as they are mainly loss leaders as the stores in question are still trading at a loss for another month or so.

WD Mybook Duo 24TB, time to sell off my old external Hitachi Touro's and WD 2.5" drives.
Posted by Spreadie - Sat 30 Nov 2019 21:07
I don't think it works all that well for impulse purchases but, if you're playing the longer game and are willing to put in a bit of effort, you can score some bargains. if you have an idea of what you're looking for in the weeks/months prior you can keep an eye the price changes on models you're interested in and make an informed choice.

However, as with a lot of the 20% off ebay campaigns, most retailers hike the prices. I'm looking at you, Ebuyer.

“Black Friday” was incidental to me. I think the big bag of silica gel I got to absorb some of the moisture in my car had some money off because of it, and well done to the workers at Amazon who got it here so quickly.

“Black Friday” had no influence on the price of the replacement blower motor I need to demist the windscreen in the aforementioned vehicle quickly and reliably without opening the side windows at 1 °C and 70 mph; you might think such an expensive part would be repairable, but nooooo, just replacing the unreachable-without-destruction (just 3 screws would have made the difference) failed bearings would have been cheap (£5) and prevented the motor from burning out (£120) just when I needed it most.

(On the off-chance anyone is concerned, the replacement is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday evening, so, provided the polar bears stay away, I will fit it when sunlight appears the next day. Life is harsh in winter Essex.)

I think the only thing I bought on Friday was the 1 year warranty extension for this awesome Alienware 15 R4 I'm typing on, that I won from Hexus & Killer Networking last year.

The warranty was 15% off for renewing online, BTW, and I think that's a standard Dell Advantage deal, not limited to Black Friday. I had 6 days left on the warranty at the time.

Also, I've been waiting for Hexus to have a store with some logo stickers to plaster stuff. But now I think I might buy a sticker set for the laptop from dbrand (sale until December 2nd), if I can decide on colors/textures soon. Suggestions welcome :)

16GB more DDR4 (32GB for main PC now) and HP EX920 M2 and a few other parts for HTPC upgrades. Minor crap. Still waiting on a great 7nm card (cmon NV, get something out here so AMD will release better 7nm stuff) to replace my 1070ti. Likely not done buying, sales are still going…LOL. Oh and 2 256GB flash drives (never enough of these around here), the FAST ones ;) Likely another SSD or two.

Bought nothing on Black Friday. However, yesterday I pulled the trigger on a Ryzen 7 3700X and an ASUS Prime X470-Pro motherboard. The reasons: Cheapest price I've seen so far (even without any BF “discount”) and I want to finally build a new system during my Christmas holiday. The current one is 7 years old.

Corsair K63 ten keyless mechanical keyboard for £53. There is sooo… much space on my desk now - unbelievable!

I got a bunch of DVD's and Blu-Rays. Some I've been keeping an eye on the price… and was the cheapest to date. Got a space hopper and toys for my kids, and some bags and shoes for the Mrs.
I did want to get some tech as well, but the cost was too much…

I did this too, a pair of Adidas Gazelle for like £33. The same week I got a similar pair, different colour for full price from another store (think it was like £10 less due to sale storewide).
