Who knows…maybe Intel.
Posted by daddacool - Fri 30 Aug 2019 16:42
Probably AMD. Got a dirt cheap Vega 56 a while back, likely to pop that in my sons computer to replace the 980 in there, and get myself a 5700XT, which seems very good in the bang for bucks sense. Just need to resolve the black screen I've got with the latest AMD Radeon Drivers on my Hades Canyon NUC. I mean, it's got a built in Radeon, and I've got another Radeon connected via an eGPU enclosure- it shouldn't be this difficult should it…
Posted by PC-LAD - Fri 30 Aug 2019 16:53
depends whats there when my 570 is obsolete, unlikely to be anytime soon.
Posted by Gentle Viking - Fri 30 Aug 2019 16:54
Just installed 5700 XT,,,, like 30 minutes ago.
Posted by LSG501 - Fri 30 Aug 2019 17:06
Because I don't just make use of the gpu for gaming and the software I use makes better use of cuda than opencl I'm basically stuck with nvidia…
Posted by Potbellieddwarf - Fri 30 Aug 2019 17:08
I would have to sell my pair of Maxwell GTX Titan X's first, but as I have G-Sync displays it would probably be another Nvidia card.

But to be truthful I would be happy to sell both of my Maxwell Titan X's and replace them with a single Pascal Titan X (or a GTX 1080 Ti), i just can't warrant spending the type of money that an RTX Titan costs oor even an RTX 2080 Ti at the moment.
Posted by Friesiansam - Fri 30 Aug 2019 17:09
It'll likely be at least two to three years before I buy a new graphics card so, far to soon to say which way I'll be going. In any event I won't be looking for a new graphics card until the one I have is found wanting by new games, or goes kaputt.
Posted by blokeinkent - Fri 30 Aug 2019 17:37
I'll probably wait to see what Nvidia do with Ampere and when RTX is better supported and hitting decent frame rates. 1070 will do me for now.

Guess I have a thing for French mathematicians :)
Posted by TonyBee - Fri 30 Aug 2019 18:08
More than likely it will be Nvidia, as my only times with AMD have been frustrating ones. That was a few years ago now so things may well have improved for them but the experience has swayed my choice since then.
I haven't had any serious issues with Nvidia so either I have been lucky, or they just suit me :-)
Posted by DavDarkelf - Fri 30 Aug 2019 18:10
It depends - I want something that can support 4k resolution on a Freesync monitor. So probably AMD unless the new NVIDIA cards are more powerful at a cheaper price point. I.E <£500 which is highly unlikely
Posted by big_hairy_rob - Fri 30 Aug 2019 18:33
Well when I (finally) get to see the rest of the custom 5700 (xt) reviews (which are all well after their mid august release) I'll know the answer to this…
Posted by Kanoe - Fri 30 Aug 2019 18:40
Whichever gives the best value for money in 3/4 years time as not long gone to a second hand 1080Ti
Posted by syristix - Fri 30 Aug 2019 18:54
Want to go Team red but I have Gsync 34" so probably wait for 3900xt release and hope the 2080ti (or 2080 TI Super ;) gets to a better price
Posted by will19565 - Fri 30 Aug 2019 19:00
almost certainly Nvidia, unless AMD or Intel can come up with the equivalent or better of an RTX 2070 for a laptop.
Posted by DevDrake - Fri 30 Aug 2019 19:08
few weeks ago replaced my old gtx 670 to a 1080 ti, so its Nvidia
Posted by ozkrmz - Fri 30 Aug 2019 19:34
It is very likely that I am gonna go for (some) newest radeon models, but I would like to see intel's upcoming GPU for mid-range market. There is no need to rush…
R9 380 I have, still doing ok job for me… Can't complain…
Posted by chj - Fri 30 Aug 2019 19:39
I'm going to wait to see how RTX evolves and take the plunge when it doesn't run like dog.

WTH…What kind of fanboy-ism inducing question is that?! When the time comes I'll make the best choice for my particular case. It could also be Intel who knows?!

Very true but I am assuming what they mean is ‘if you were making a decision today’. For me I would be leaning towards AMD. The new navis seem to be offering a bit better value and it will be interesting to see whether they introduce new models soon for a broader range and when they add raytracing to their cards.

AMD is about to mature for real, so AMD got a strong hold in me.
Posted by lon3wolf2002 - Fri 30 Aug 2019 21:53
Won't be upgrading for a while but AMD have come up a long way recently so will keep an eye on them for sure when I upgrade my NVidia card.
Posted by meuvoy - Fri 30 Aug 2019 22:04
Although AMD always was King on the CPU side for me, as I always go for price/performance I have never, ever seen AMD as the best price/performance in my life when it comes to GPUs so I always bought NVIDIA and I can't see this changing anytime soon. There's also all the other benefits from Nvidia like CUDA and CUDA and… CUDA… And RTX now! It's great for architectural visualization which is what I work with.
Posted by spike_uk - Fri 30 Aug 2019 22:08
Waiting for the RX 5600 to come out.
Posted by Korrorra - Fri 30 Aug 2019 22:35
Most likely if I ever needed a new video card from my 1070 Amp. I would go AMD next. AMD will be releasing a beefier GPU later. The 5800/5900 series I believe. I would likely go with a 5800XT/5900XT. Whatever the number will be. I am waiting for the better ones. Pretty sure it will have Vega pricing though. Which will suck.
Posted by vMax65 - Fri 30 Aug 2019 22:51
I have had my RTX 2080 for quite some time and I am sure it will see me through at least 3 to 4 more years…Very impressive and powers through all my gaming at 1440p and 4k though the price was way too much…thankfully I sold my GTX 1080 at the right time which made it palatable cost wise…
Posted by Troopa - Fri 30 Aug 2019 23:20
Nvidia all the way. You get what you pay for. If you want value then AMD but otherwise I don't honestly think AMD ever has been competitive since ATi overclocking days and thats going back some time now. Even then i chose 3dfx/intel. Quality always.,
Posted by nobodyspecial - Fri 30 Aug 2019 23:28
7nm and must have all RTX features (it's coming, like it or not, RT is here, DLSS, VRS etc). $500-700 this time ($509 last 1070ti, radeon 5850 $300 before that), so moving up my purchases like most I guess. That is, if you are going by NV/Intel Q reports etc. I'm guessing Nvidia, but AMD could surprise with RTX features on 7nm. Heat also means a lot to me in a HOT state, so I always pick a card that runs cool anyway (either side, this is not negotiable). I can say for certain it won't be INTEL…LOL@drivers for decades. They will have to prove themselves for a few gens before I would EVER purchase.
Posted by ozzell - Fri 30 Aug 2019 23:57
Bought a 2080ti and have a small dose of buyers remorse. That said, it will last 5 years I expect, so won't be changing any time soon. Though I now have the urgent to watercool it. What could possibly go wrong
Posted by spolsh - Sat 31 Aug 2019 02:09
I know whatever I get next won't be top-end … just too expensive now, 1080ti price was as high as I'd ever go,so that'll probably be a 3060 if things keep going like they are.

Maybe Intel will shake the market up.
Posted by FRISH - Sat 31 Aug 2019 05:48
No idea, all options are pretty expensive. Even intel could be my next pick, but I won't hold my breath for them since they haven't been that impressive in the graphics department so far, particularly with larabee. It would be nice to have the option of raytracing with nvidia, but then I'm not sure I want to pay high end for first gen.
Posted by loccothan - Sat 31 Aug 2019 06:20
ATI/AMD Big Navi and Freesync 2 HDR1000 monitor 2k (or minimum HDR600)
Posted by Wrinkly - Sat 31 Aug 2019 10:37
Still using a 1080Ti FTW3. RTX looks more like a beta product, while AMD doesn't offer anything to top the 1080Ti. Will see what pops up next gen.

I recently obtained an MSI RX Vega 64 for ~£270 GBP, on to which I installed my existing Raijinktek Morpheus II, so my gaming desktop is fine for now. However, I am hoping that AMD will launch something like RX 5600 or RX 5500 series of cards soon, since I'd like to replace the ageing card in my mATX living room PC.

In terms of a choice, I don't really find Nvidia compelling presently in terms of price, which is still too high, or software, which doesn't seem to have evolved with the times in terms of UI or functionality. They still generally tend to have reliable drivers, for the mostpart, but it doesn't make up for lacking in the other areas.

I'd like to think that Nvidia, with all their cash, would focus some of their R&D on improving their driver suite, but it feels like they don't want to because they don't have to. Even the latest “budget” offerings, such as the 1650 and the incoming 1650 Ti, are priced higher by-and-large than one would reasonable expect to pay.

In case it feels like I'm being biased against Nvidia here, AMD is far from blameless. Even with their price cuts, the RX 5700 and 5700 XT are only price-competitive to Nvidia's offerings because Nvidia's prices are so high. I understand why they did this (i.e., to make decent margins on the cards for fund future updates), but it's still a bitter pill to swallow.

If things go the way they are, I'll just continue to upgrade to last-generation tech at much cheaper prices on a regular two-three year cadence. With very-few exceptions, I'm not inclined to play new games on launch date, so I don't tend to find my system power lacking in any way, shape or form.
Posted by jnutt - Sat 31 Aug 2019 13:52
Toying with upgrading my 1070 for a 2070 Super. Not quite convinced though.
Posted by Rubarb - Sat 31 Aug 2019 16:29
Who knows what my next card will be ? I know it will be 2nd hand tho because there's no way I'm paying what they are asking for new models.
Posted by Menty - Sat 31 Aug 2019 16:48
For price above all else, I'd go AMD in a given market segment - they don't care so much about power usage, driver quality etc, but they're cheaper.

Certain situations benefit from the new NVENC encoder on 1660+ GPUs, so if it's someone who will leverage that, it'll always be nVidia (basically streamers and people who game+record).

Personally I have a 2080Ti, because I don't like to debate these things :) I added an eVGA water cooling unit to it when one of the FE fans started to buzz, and that's really given it some breathing room for clocks etc to stay nice and high while gaming.
Posted by spacein_vader - Sat 31 Aug 2019 18:14
Whichever has the most performance within my budget when I'm due to upgrade. Beyond that I don't much care.
Posted by Doherz - Sat 31 Aug 2019 19:00
I'd love it to be AMD just because Nvidia have totally ruined the market pricing for mid to high end GPUs these last two generations. Ryzen has sorted pricing out in the cpu space so now we need more high end GPU competition.
Posted by =assassin= - Sat 31 Aug 2019 19:32
I'm more likely to go with NVidia, as I occasionally play around with Blender, and the Cycles render can make use of NVidia hardware quite effectively, but tbh, as I am aiming to upgrade another year from now via a full build, I will easily be swayed by whichever of AMD or NVidia provides the best card for gaming around the £300 ish price point, when that time comes.
Posted by Spreadie - Sat 31 Aug 2019 19:41
When my 1080Ti fails to perform as required, I'll go for whatever is best value. I don't care who manufactures it.
Posted by Euphonium - Sat 31 Aug 2019 21:17
My 980Ti is still overkill for gaming at 1080p60 so I won't be upgrading this year. I'll need a new CPU/mobo/RAM and a higher resolution monitor before I can justify a new GPU.
On top of that, AMD doesn't have a high-end card that I like the look of and nVidia's RTX cards are ridiculously overpriced, so I expect to wait at least one more generation, possibly two, before I buy.
Posted by h4d3z - Sat 31 Aug 2019 21:35
Got a 1080, so for now I'm good but who knows, will see when the moment is there but could be either one
Posted by Percy1983 - Sun 01 Sep 2019 00:08
Probably AMD as a can't afford Nvidia, witht hat AMDs recent pricing worries me.

Rx 5700
Posted by nar53 - Sun 01 Sep 2019 14:30
Recently bought an 8gb RX580 so I won't be buying another for a long time.
Posted by atomicWAR - Sun 01 Sep 2019 14:51
I just popped in a new MSI Seahawk EK (non X) RTX 2080Ti after one of my GTX 1080's took a cr@p. Had hoped to wait tell next generation but that's life sometimes.
Posted by Iota - Sun 01 Sep 2019 17:14
G-sync display, so guess it'll be Nvidia when I get around to it. Unless of course I also upgrade my monitor at the same time again, then it'll be whoever produces the best performing GPU for the games that I play, at a price point I can stomach.
Posted by Shane74 - Mon 02 Sep 2019 03:52
Who ever has the fastest next year or 2021!
I currently run 1440p 165hz G Sync using a 2080TI and will end up moving to 4k 144hz HDR Free Sync when a single gpu can handle it above 70-90fps, Which is the minimum comfort zone for me on fps games.
Posted by tonyd2233 - Mon 02 Sep 2019 08:39
GTX1080ti, so it might be a while… and I also am running a 1440p 165Hz gsync screen which I'm not going to change for ages…
Posted by WyldeStile - Mon 02 Sep 2019 09:51
I'll see what's best for me when it's time to upgrade. Whichever has the most bang for the buck at the resolution that I need will get my money. Over the years, I've used both and that will continue.
Posted by darcotech - Mon 02 Sep 2019 11:06
Will wait for 2020. With amount of work these days, not so much time to play games anyway and Vega 56 will do until next-gen.
Posted by cheesemp - Mon 02 Sep 2019 11:50
Got an rx480 8gb so in no rush but will probably be AMD. 1) I love an underdog 2) I hate Nvidia's love for creating proprietary crap like hair works/gsync and pushing prices for midrange cards up above £300+
Posted by SkywalkerLuke - Mon 02 Sep 2019 16:10
Probably AMD as I have been loyal for many years but felt very underwhelmed with my Vega 64 investment…
Posted by 007 - Mon 02 Sep 2019 18:34
my next graphic card will represent mid range and cost no more than £220 (new), at the same time it would have to be at least 30-40% faster than my current vega 56. I won't buy any new graphic card otherwise.
Posted by lyesbkz - Mon 02 Sep 2019 21:20
Hopefully NVIDIA with RTX, unless the novelty wears off before it's time to upgrade…
Posted by RealNeil - Tue 03 Sep 2019 00:10
Neither one. I have dual cards in all of my systems and they perform great for me.
(1070Ti, 1080, and Vega-64)

I'll wait for a significant development to emerge before I spend as much as they seem to want these days.
Posted by Presto86 - Tue 03 Sep 2019 12:19
Nvidia or AMD does it matter?… No, for me anyway. The main thing is the price and the performance I will get from it.
I wont be upgrading from my XFX R9 Fury for another year or two.
Posted by Dashers - Tue 03 Sep 2019 13:33
5700 XT, if I can find one that only takes up 2 slots at a reasonable cost. Nvidia cards seem to need a lot less cooling that the AMD counter parts.
Posted by 7daysbadger - Wed 04 Sep 2019 03:48
It's gotta be Nvidia, cuda is a must for me. Just wish the prices were better!
Posted by raygdunn - Wed 04 Sep 2019 08:55
I was once a AMD person (good budget value), then I had a compatibility issue between graphics card and motherboard and decided Nvidia was a safer bet.
Posted by Lordhawkwind - Wed 04 Sep 2019 20:35
Just bought a Sapphire Pulse 5700XT to replace my reference Vega 64 and loving it. So much quieter and less heat it's an absolute dream. About 12/20% faster than Vega 64 so happy days indeed. Drivers are still rubbish but hey ho. It's still running at stock the performance is that good. Maybe later I might start tweaking.
Posted by Quartz - Thu 05 Sep 2019 12:14
I have a 2080 Ti, so I'm good for a while yet. Who knows what will be available in 2021?
Posted by markzero - Fri 06 Sep 2019 20:22
I'll wait and see who has the best GPU with very low power requirements (and hopefully also a low profile size) at the time.
Posted by Jempa92 - Tue 17 Sep 2019 09:50
Got a G-sync display so definitely got to be a nvidia card.
Posted by Scrupulous - Thu 19 Sep 2019 17:49
I wish I knew, this is the first time AMD look like the only rational choice but I have always bought Nvidia so am worried about driver issues and such. Maybe best to hold out for another year or so until ray tracing works without halving frame rate. I hear AMD will be able to do ray tracing at some point also?
