“let's call them ‘smart plugs’ for short”…

Very competitive pricing!

Tempting at that price (just need the rest of the kit to make it worthwhile…)

Good price but not sure I want another hub, the tplink plugs were £12 each last week and the hub is optional.

Been holding off getting a smart plug but as we have 3 Echo devices at home now, these are tempting, as long as I don’t need to by the IKEA gateway.

At that price, worth a shot I say.

It would be great if there were some open standards around these types of devices so that they don't become obsolete as soon as the manufacturers stop supporting.

Looks interesting but I’ll wait I until it is HomeKit compatible - I don’t want yet another hub!

Does the app give feedback as to the actual state of the plug or just the last command sent?

The reason I ask is that I looked at ‘smart’ sockets which had a local control switch - operating the local control switch did not update the state of the socket on the app.

smart? but in the pictures the sockets are switched off- hello?

A big part of me wants to put one of these into the Router's and Alexa power supply.. and test how quickly they work.

Is that wrong?

Reading a page linked in the article, it seems the Ikea plug already has a Zigbee chip. I might order one to test out :)

Zigbee perhaps? Samsung seems to be supporting it (and Z-Wave?) with it's SmartThings Hub. Other manufacturers too.
